The Management Board of Investment and Construction of Civil and Industrial Works has submitted a petition to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to speed up the renovation and repair of Thong Nhat Stadium, in preparation for future organization and training plans.
Accordingly, the A, C, D stands, the grass field, the running track, the technical infrastructure system and some other items will be renovated. The B, C1, D1 stands are currently seriously degraded and will be completely rebuilt with a scale of 3 floors. It is expected that the capacity of Thong Nhat Stadium after renovation will increase from 14,000 to 19,000 seats.
According to the plan, the wastewater treatment system operator, toilet area, garbage collection house, underground water tank, some functional rooms and technical infrastructure will also be completely renovated. It is known that the total investment and renovation cost will be up to 149 billion VND. The project is expected to start in early 2025 and will be completed by the end of the year.
However, speaking to Lao Dong on the afternoon of September 24, Mr. Huynh Minh Hung - Deputy Head of the Department of Investment and Construction Management of Civil and Industrial Works - said that this project will likely have to postpone its construction time.
"Currently, we are still in the process of preparing documents. According to the plan, the stadium will start construction in early 2025. However, due to changes in policy and additional items, we have to re-prepare documents, and construction may not begin until the end of 2025," Mr. Hung informed.
Thong Nhat Stadium is being registered by Ho Chi Minh City and Ho Chi Minh City Youth Clubs as their home stadium for the 2024-2025 season. In addition, this is also the home stadium of Ho Chi Minh City I women's team when it hosts the group stage of the 2025 AFC Champions League taking place in October.
