Vietnamese singers struggle despite their titles
Over the years, audiences have known many names that became stars overnight thanks to winning titles at major music competitions. These names include Huong Tram, Uyen Linh, Phuong Vy Idol, Duc Phuc... They were not known to the audience, but winning major competitions such as The Voice of Vietnam and Vietnam Idol has helped to open up the careers of these stars.
Even the singers who won the runner-up title are equally outstanding, such as Vu Cat Tuong (runner-up of The Voice Vietnam), Phuong My Chi (runner-up of The Voice Kids), Van Mai Huong (runner-up of Vietnam Idol)...
The title of champion and runner-up has created a lever for many young singers, helping them become valuable names on stage, even ticket sellers. Besides the prominent names, many champions from competitions and music talent shows have gradually lost their appeal, and not many people are remembered and named by the audience.
The public once knew the name Ya Suy of Vietnam Idol in 2012. When he was crowned, he won the hearts of fans with his rustic and simple personality. However, because he did not have the right direction and a clear strategy, Ya Suy almost disappeared, and the audience even forgot that he was once the champion of a prestigious music competition. Champions from music shows such as Rap Viet, King of Rap, Bolero Talent 2020... such as De Choat, ICD... also gradually disappeared.
It can be said that winning a major music program or competition is not an easy thing for stars. However, the reality is that not every name can maintain its reputation and appeal to the audience. They are even eliminated from showbiz.
Keeping the halo is never easy
In addition to the singers' abilities and direction, a big reason why champions and runners-up in recent years have had difficulty maintaining their appeal is because there are too many music competitions and singer titles are being born "like mushrooms after rain".
In the early days, music shows and competitions were like a strange dish, so audiences flocked to watch and the champions and runners-up benefited. But now, audiences are starting to get bored and lose interest in the competitions.
Remember the case of singer Ngoc Mai - the champion of "Masked Singer", her name became very famous at the time of her coronation. However, because of controversial statements, Ngoc Mai gradually lost public sympathy, causing her name to be associated with scandals.
De Choat - Rap Viet champion also encountered a similar situation. He was criticized for his vulgar and uncontrolled statements on social media, which made the male rapper's image tarnished in the public eye.
Recently, there have been competitions such as “Anh trai vu ngan chong gai”, “Chi dep dap gio roi song”, “Anh trai say hi”... that are winning the public’s affection. Trang Phap won the championship of Chi dep dap gio roi song, HIEUTHUHAI won the championship of Anh trai say hi. Particularly in the case of singer Hoang Hiep and musician Bui Cong Nam in Anh trai vu ngan chong gai, although the program has not ended, they are still loved and remembered by the audience. They used to be stars that were not much noticed by the audience, but when participating in the show, they emerged as a phenomenon.
Among them, Trang Phap at Sister Dep Dap Gio Xua Song promoted her strengths such as composing, making music, performing... helping her win a worthy award. For these artists, although they are currently more or less noticed and remembered by the audience, the pressure to maintain the halo is not small.
Trang Phap admitted that the championship title is just a stepping stone and cannot be a “lucky charm” to help her live forever at the peak of her career. Therefore, the female singer tried to complete her new album to help maintain the appeal of her name.
