After more than 10 days of competition, host Thailand won a total of 499 medals of various types, including 233 gold medals, 154 silver medals and 112 bronze medals.
The number of 233 gold medals not only helped Thailand successfully defend the top spot in the overall delegation, but also became an unprecedented milestone at the SEA Games.
This achievement helped Thailand break the old record held by the Vietnamese sports delegation, with 205 gold medals at the 31st SEA Games in 2022. This is the first time in history that a country has surpassed the 230-point mark of gold medals at a Southeast Asian Games.
Ahead of the 33rd SEA Games, the Sports Regulatory Authority of Thailand (SAT) set a target of winning about 241 gold medals. Although not fully completing the set targets, the result of 233 gold medals is still considered a great success for the host country's sports delegation, especially in the context of increasingly fierce competition between countries in the region.
The 33rd SEA Games will be held from December 9 to 20 at three main locations: Bangkok, Chonburi and Songkhla, gathering more than 9,300 athletes competing in 50 sports. This year's Games have a total of 574 sets of medals awarded, 10 fewer than the most recent SEA Games, but still witnessed a new record for gold medal achievements.
Thailand's record of 233 gold medals is considered a remarkable milestone in the history of the SEA Games, while affirming the leading position of Thai sports in the regional arena.
