Sports that can organize international tournaments in Vietnam
In 2024, Vietnamese professional table tennis athletes will have the opportunity to compete in the Con Son - Hai Duong International Table Tennis Tournament, held at the Hai Duong Provincial Gymnasium. The tournament brings together many international tennis players from Guangxi (China), Singapore, Thailand and Taiwan (China).
Tennis player Nguyen Anh Tu of the Vietnamese table tennis team once shared: "We rarely have the opportunity to receive international training. Therefore, international table tennis tournaments held in Vietnam are a good opportunity for everyone to compete and improve their skills.
Regarding athletics, the Vietnam Athletics Federation has been working with the Southeast Asian Athletics Federation to bring a specialized tournament to Vietnam. The last time Vietnam Athletics hosted an international tournament in the athletics competition program at the 31st SEA Games at My Dinh National Stadium.
General Secretary of the Vietnam Athletics Federation - Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung - discussed that the Asian Athletics Federation should consider giving us the opportunity to host 1 stage in the series of Asian half-marathon - 21km events. However, the organization must be calculated specifically and when reviewing the possibility, we have not temporarily received the right to host this year.
Recently, the running movement has developed among all Vietnamese people, many grassroots marathons have been organized. There are also many races in Vietnam that have been upgraded to international races and some are licensed by the Association of Athletics Measurement (AIMS) - an international organization specializing in measuring and certifying marathons and running races - with international standards.
"With more foreign athletes participating in grassroots marathons, the prestige and professional value will be enhanced". In our country, the Vietnam Athletics Federation recognizes that when there is an AIMS standard, some tournaments are the basis for athletes to achieve the standard index to have the opportunity to participate in the 6 largest international tournaments including Boston marathon (USA), London marathon (UK), Berlin marathon (Germany), Chicago marathon (USA), New York City marathon (USA) and Tokyo marathon (Japan).
Organizing the tournament well will have great benefits
Vietnamese sports have been focusing on solving the problem of doing a good job in sports economics from organizing tournaments. Last year, for the first time, the Vietnam Athletics Federation coordinated with units to organize the Viettel Marathon 2024 international tournament running in 3 countries including Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia.
Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung said: "We have developed a very detailed tournament organization plan and have received it from many professional and amateur athletes. It must be seen that in reality, the race brings a part of the profit from the organization, but above all, runners are allowed to compete according to individual needs".
Vietnam was once the host of the Hanoi Open Pool Championship 2024 with a total prize money of up to 200,000 USD. The world's leading player of billiards pool has arrived in Hanoi to compete and make many fierce matches with Vietnamese players. The value of the profits from the tournament is certain even though the data is not published.
When an international tournament brings 2 efficiency including doing well in sports economics and creating a professional playground for Vietnamese players, many units are ready to do so. One sport that sports managers are considering to have been doing a good job in Vietnam's sports economy is pickleball. Many international tournaments have been held in Vietnam and brought top players to compete with Vietnamese pickleball athletes.
We have statistics, the world's leading tennis players such as Andrei Daescu, Jack Sock, Genie Bouchard, Tyson Mc Guffin, Jessie Irvine, Pesa Teoni... have arrived in Vietnam. They found the promotion of pickleball effective. In terms of expertise, domestic athletes are allowed to compete with the strongest opponent without having to go international, said Mr. Mac Xuan Tung, head of the pickleball department (Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports).
