The list of countries confirming live broadcast of FIFA World Cup 2026 has gradually been announced.
According to Daily News, there are 6 Southeast Asian countries that own the copyright, including Cambodia and Timor-Leste. However, as of now, Thailand still has no unit holding the broadcasting rights, although the tournament will take place from June 11 to July 19.
Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul spoke out on this issue. Speaking at the Government House on May 5, he affirmed that the Thai people will definitely be able to watch the 2026 World Cup.
It must be done to be able to watch. Every previous government helped Thai people watch the World Cup, so could my government be an exception?" - the Prime Minister of Thailand said.
However, the head of the Thai government has not yet proposed a specific plan, saying the issue will be further discussed in the near future.
According to Daily News, there are currently 32 Asian countries that own broadcasting rights. In Southeast Asia, countries that have confirmed include Cambodia, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, Timor-Leste and Vietnam. Currently, only Brunei, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar and Thailand have not yet completed the agreement.
