Specific goals
Two years ago, the Vietnamese Swimming Team only won 7 Gold Medals in the events participating in the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia. Evaluating that result, the coaching staff of the Vietnam Swimming Team and the Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports recognized each athlete for their efforts in their abilities. But in reality, the swimming idol of the Vietnam Swimming Team has not completed the set target because we have aimed to win 8 Gold Medals.
Currently, all players of the Vietnam Swimming Team are practicing professionally at training locations in Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang and Can Tho. In particular, the key group will practice in Can Tho under the supervision of expert Gustavo (Brazil). The quota of the Swimming Team for the 33rd SEA Games is kept confidential at this time, helping to ensure the preparation tactics during the force review phase.
However, the target is almost certain not to be lower than 5 Gold Medals because we have kept familiar faces in the National Team such as Nguyen Huy Hoang, Tran Hung Nguyen, Pham Thanh Bao, Vo Thi My Tien, Nguyen Thuy Hien...
"We have developed a professional preparation plan for the Vietnam Swimming Team since the beginning of 2025. In addition to domestic tournaments, athletes will be able to participate in a number of international tournaments to have a sense of practical competition, said Ms. Le Thanh Huyen, head of swimming (Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports).
In July 2025, we will participate in the World Championship with the expected squad including: Nguyen Huy Hoang, Vo Thi My Tien, Nguyen Quang Thuan, Pham Thanh Bao. The World Championship is always a place with fierce competition from top athletes. Vietnamese athletes participated with the highest goal of surpassing their professional achievements in their events - the representative of the coaching staff of the Vietnam Swimming Team affirmed.
The main force is still Nguyen Huy Hoang
Nguyen Huy Hoang has not participated in international training but is currently training in Can Tho. The male swimmer from Quang Binh has rarely appeared recently due to closed practice to ensure performance parameters from experts and coaching staff.
In his personal achievements, Huy Hoang has won a total of 11 Gold Medals through 4 SEA Games (SEA Games 29, SEA Games 30, SEA Games 32, SEA Games 32). At SEA Gamese 32, this athlete won 3 Gold Medals (2 individual events in 400m freestyle, 1,500m freestyle; 1 individual event in 4x200m freestyle).
For the 33rd SEA Games, based on professional forecasts, Huy Hoang has advantages in some sports. We continue to expect the male athlete from Quang Binh to achieve the best results and if successful, Huy Hoang will go down in the history of Vietnamese sports as the first male swimmer to win consecutive Gold Medals at 5 SEA Games.
However, everyone is being cautious. Huy Hoang rarely appears because he wants to focus on his expertise. The upcoming 2025 World Championship will be the first international tournament in 2025 that this swimmer will participate in. According to the coaching staff, Huy Hoang competed in the 1,500m freestyle event and this event helped the number 1 player of the Vietnam Swimming Team get an official spot to the 2024 Paris Olympics (France).
"The coaching staff has a professional curriculum for each group of events so that athletes can achieve efficiency with the index when practicing as well as competing in real-life competition. From the beginning of 2025 to now, athletes have participated in a number of domestic tournaments.
We regularly check the parameters to grasp and adjust the training for the players. Nguyen Huy Hoang is one of the key faces. In addition to Huy Hoang, the team still has other athletes. At this time, the players are in a very comfortable spirit" - Ms. Le Thanh Huyen added.
