According to the original plan, the Vietnamese team chose My Dinh National Stadium as their home stadium for the 2024 ASEAN Cup (formerly known as the AFF Cup). The first home match of coach Kim Sang-sik and his team will be against the Indonesian team on December 15.
However, on December 7, My Dinh Stadium held the concert Anh trai say hi. Organizing a music show close to the match day can significantly affect the quality of the My Dinh Stadium grass. In particular, the weather in December in the North often has frost, the grass will turn yellow, even die.
The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) received information that My Dinh Stadium would host the concert quite late. Meanwhile, the VFF had planned for a long time and chose My Dinh Stadium as the home stadium of the Vietnam team at the ASEAN Cup 2024.
According to regulations, 3 weeks before the match, the field must be clean and no events can be held to ensure the quality of the grass.
In this situation, VFF is considering the option of choosing Viet Tri Stadium (Phu Tho Province) as the home stadium for the matches against Indonesia (December 15) and Myanmar (December 21), instead of My Dinh Stadium. If they pass the group stage, VFF will continue to consider options for choosing the stadium for the semi-finals and finals.
Viet Tri Stadium is in good condition after renovation and upgrading to prepare for the 31st SEA Games in 2022. VFF often chooses this stadium to host matches of many levels of Vietnamese teams.
Viet Tri Stadium has also successfully organized Group I of the 2025 U17 Asian qualifiers, and Vietnam U17 also won a ticket to the final round in this qualifying campaign.
If choosing Viet Tri as the home stadium, VFF will also face difficulties when Timor-Leste is also expressing interest in renting this stadium as the home stadium for matches against Thailand (December 8) and Singapore (December 14) in Group A of the ASEAN Cup 2024.
