The Vietnamese team drew 2-2 with Thailand in the second leg final at My Dinh Stadium on the evening of August 26, thereby winning 4-2 overall and successfully defending the ASEAN Cup championship.
This achievement helps coach Kim Sang-sik and his team receive more bonuses from the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), the Association of Southeast Asian Football Federations (AFF), businesses and individuals.
Before the second leg final, the Vietnamese team received a total of 12.3 billion VND in bonuses, including 7.8 billion VND from VFF, 4 billion VND from Bau Thuy and 500 million VND from Acecook Vietnam.
After the team completed the goal of defending the championship, VFF decided to award an additional 4 billion VND. A bank also announced a bonus of 2 billion VND for the Vietnamese team.
Notably, the ASEAN Cup 2026 championship also brought the Vietnamese team a bonus of 300,000 USD from AFF, equivalent to about 7.8 billion VND.
In addition, Vietnamese players and members of the team also enjoy the reward regime according to State regulations. According to Decree 349/2025, each athlete who wins the championship of a tournament belonging to the Southeast Asian Championship group is awarded 40 million VND. For 25 players, this total bonus is 1 billion VND.
For teams competing collectively with over 15 athletes, the bonus fund for coaches is calculated equivalent to 5 athlete bonuses, equivalent to 200 million VND and is divided according to regulations.
The bonus from the State budget only applies to Vietnamese citizens. Therefore, head coach Kim Sang-sik and the coaching staff members who are foreigners are not eligible for this bonus.
As of now, the total bonus money the Vietnamese team received after winning the ASEAN Cup 2026 is 29.3 billion VND. This number is likely to increase as organizations, businesses and individuals continue to announce bonus levels to recognize the team's achievements.
This championship also helps the Vietnamese team complete the goal of successfully defending the Southeast Asian crown. This is the fourth time Vietnam has won the ASEAN Cup, thereby equaling Singapore's number of championships.
In particular, this achievement also turns the goal that VFF President Tran Quoc Tuan shared before the tournament into reality. After the championship in 2024, he once expected the Vietnamese team to win the championship for two consecutive tournaments, similar to the achievements that Thailand and Singapore have achieved.
After the final match at My Dinh Stadium, Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan expressed his pride that the team had achieved its goal and continued to affirm the position of Vietnamese football in the region.
