Nepal police said on August 27 that they had found 157 bodies after the horrific flood swept through the border area with Tibet, bringing the total death toll to at least 160, along with hundreds still missing, AFP reported.
Previously, the media reported on "huge casualties" due to a landslide in the central border area of Tibet, with 3 deaths and 265 missing.
TASS news agency quoted police sources and some local news sites as saying that the highest number of victims was recorded in Chitwan district in southern China, where 64 bodies were found. 41 people injured in the flood are being treated at hospitals.
More than 3,300 police officers have been mobilized for search and rescue work.
The flood struck northern Nepal in the morning. According to initial data, the flood column was formed by a landslide with rocks near the Nepal - China border area, about 20km northeast of the Rasuwagadhi border gate.
