Vietnam and Thailand teams both rose to FIFA rankings after ASEAN Cup 2026. According to Football Ranking calculations, the Vietnamese team is expected to gain 9.74 points after 8 matches at ASEAN Cup 2026. The team's accumulated points increased to 1,236.94 points, thereby increasing 1 place in the FIFA rankings.
Notably, the Vietnamese team holds the 17th position in Asia and the second in Southeast Asia. Meanwhile, Thailand continues to lead the region despite losing to Vietnam in both final matches.
In the journey to win the ASEAN Cup 2026 championship, the Vietnamese team successively defeated Timor-Leste 7-0, Indonesia 3-0, Cambodia 3-1 and drew with Singapore 0-0 in the group stage. In the semi-finals, coach Kim Sang-sik's team defeated Malaysia 2-0 in both legs.
In the final, the Vietnamese team continued to win 2-0 against Thailand at Rajamangala stadium in the first leg, before drawing 2-2 at My Dinh in the second leg, thereby winning the championship with a total score of 4-2.
According to Football Ranking, the victory over Thailand helped the Vietnamese team get an extra 2.6 points. Two victories over Malaysia brought in 3.68 points, while the victories over Cambodia, Indonesia and Timor-Leste contributed 1.17, 2.18 and 0.9 points respectively. The draw with Singapore caused the team to be deducted 0.77 points.
In the opposite direction, Thailand is forecast to add 1.53 points after the tournament and increase 1 place in the FIFA rankings. This team continues to hold the No. 1 position in Southeast Asia and 15th in Asia.
Thailand was deducted 2.6 points after a 0-2 defeat to Vietnam in the first leg final and lost an additional 3.4 points when losing to Singapore 1-2 in the second leg semi-final. However, the victories in the group stage and the victory over Singapore in the first leg semi-final helped coach Milovan Rajevac's team compensate for the deducted points.
Among the remaining Southeast Asian teams, Singapore is the team with the most significant improvement when it is expected to increase 2 places to 146th place. Other teams are forecast to maintain the same ranking.
The next official FIFA ranking is expected to be announced on October 7. From now until then, the rankings of Southeast Asian teams may still change based on the results of matches at the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026, scheduled to kick off on September 23.
