Striker Tran Thi Thanh Thuy has ended her contract with Gresik Petrokimia in the Indonesian National Volleyball Championship (Proliga).
The previous contract signed between the two sides was for one season. If not counting the official time in Indonesia at the end of 2024, the Vietnamese striker will only have a full month playing in the Proliga. Therefore, this contract is considered to end very quickly.
This is the second time in less than 4 months that Thanh Thuy has had to leave her foreign team early. Previously, in November 2024, the Binh Duong-born player also had to end her contract early with the Kuzeyboru club (Türkiye).
Compared to her time in Türkiye, Thanh Thuy played more times in Indonesia and left a clear mark in 7 matches for Gresik Petrokimia. However, she still had to say goodbye to the team sooner than expected.
Some say that physical strength is still a disadvantage for Thanh Thuy at this time. The female striker born in 1997 suffered a knee injury in early 2024 while playing for the PFU Blue Cats club in the Japanese national championship. Since then, Thanh Thuy has not been able to return to her best form.
She once shared: "During the break, there were many moments that made me want to come back to compete. So whenever the pain subsided, I went back to the training ground. Then the injury recurred.
I did not give my injury the proper recovery time according to the treatment and method given by the doctor. I feel quite regretful because I was too impatient, leading to this injury not being fully recovered."
It is because being impatient to compete can make Thanh Thuy's injury recovery process more complicated. It is easy to see that in the last 7 matches, when playing on the attack line, Thanh Thuy still has not been stable. Her momentum and high jump have been limited compared to 2023.
Remember, at the end of November 2024 when Thanh Thuy left Kuzeyboru, many sources said that she could not meet the professional requirements of the European team due to being affected by heart disease. Although this information has not been confirmed, it cannot be ruled out that the Binh Duong-born player is having health problems after a period of continuous travel abroad, high-intensity training and competition.
Besides, Thanh Thuy's departure from Gresik Petrokimia may have stemmed from the tactical demands of the head coach. In matches for Gresik Petrokimia, despite being placed on the attack line, Thanh Thuy did not receive good passes from the setter. This could have come from the demands that coach Ayub Hidayat placed on the setter as well as his tactical arrangements for Thanh Thuy.
