The opponent is ranked 55th in the world, the number 2 seed in the tournament. Although being rated lower, Vu Thi Trang had a comeback with a score of 17-21, 21-18, 21-16.
In the past, Vu Thi Trang lost to Lalinrat Chaiwan at the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia (lost 21-18, 21-17). Chaiwan has the highest achievement of 16th place in the world, twice won the SEA Games silver medal, and once won the World Tour championship.
In the semi-finals, Vu Thi Trang will face 17-year-old Indian tennis player Unnati Hooda (ranked 77th in the world). Vu Thi Trang is currently ranked 129th in the world, but she has an advantage with extensive experience.
Vu Thi Trang was born in 1992, the wife of badminton legend Nguyen Tien Minh. The couple got married in 2016 and her husband is also a coach of Vu Thi Trang.
She won the bronze medal at the 2010 Youth Olympics in Singapore, the bronze medal at the 2013 and 2015 SEA Games, and had the highest ranking in her career at the 34th world (in 2017).
