Today (August 2), the quarter-finals of the VTV Cup 2024 international women's volleyball tournament took place at Ninh Binh Provincial Gymnasium.
In the first quarter-final, the Korean club Expressway faced off against the King Whale of Taiwan (China). Technically, this match had a certain difference, as the two teams had contrasting performances in the group stage.
As predicted by experts, Expressway did not encounter many difficulties when facing the representative from Taiwan (China). The team from the land of kimchi won 3-0 after 3 quick sets, with the scores of 25-11, 25-21 and 25-14 respectively.
Notably, main attacker Kang So-hwi suffered an injury and left the field in the first set, unable to continue playing. This is a huge loss for Expressway if this female athlete is not available in the upcoming semi-finals.
In the second quarter-final, Korabelka (Russia) faced Paint Masters (Philippines). It seemed like the European representative would have an easy win, but they encountered many difficulties against a team that played with dedication and enthusiasm.
In set 1, Paint Masters surprisingly played an attacking and aggressive game. Alyssa Solomon and her teammates scored consecutive points to put pressure on their opponents. However, at crucial moments, they let Korabelka take advantage of the situations and win 25-18.
In set 2, the Philippines representative could not maintain the excitement and lost to Korabelka with a score of 19-25. The surprise came in set 3 when Paint Masters played impressively to take a 6-point lead, before ending with a score of 25-21.
However, in set 4, Korabelka was the more courageous one. They overcame their opponents with a score of 25-22, thereby winning 3-1 overall to gain the right to continue.
The third quarter-final match was between Kuanysh Club (Kazakhstan) and Aranmare (Japan). In the first set, a surprise happened when Kuanysh won 25-10 against their opponent.
In set 2, Aranmare regained a stable rhythm and continuously led their opponents, at times up to 4 points. However, at the end of the set, they ran out of steam and let Kuanysh overtake them with a score of 25-22.
In set 3, the two teams had a dramatic score chase. Aranmare reached set-point twice, but once again Kuanysh overcame his opponent with a score of 28-16, thereby winning 3-0 overall to enter the semi-finals.
According to the schedule, the 4th semi-final match between the Vietnamese women's volleyball team and Henan club (China) will take place at 7:30 p.m. today (August 29).
