The final competition day of the 2024 Hanoi Rapid Chess Open ended on the evening of November 10 at the Hanoi Indoor Athletics Palace.
Notably, this year's advanced table expansion included international grandmasters, male and female international grandmasters... A surprise occurred when the 12th seed - Pham Cong Minh of Ninh Binh won the championship with 6.5 points after 8 matches. Also winning 6.5 points, player Tran Vo Quoc Bao (Royal Chess Club) ranked second due to losing in the secondary index.
Tied for third place are two quite famous players - Bang Gia Huy (Future Grandmasters Club) with 6.5 points and Nguyen Huynh Minh Thien (Hanoi) with 6 points.
Two other prominent faces in this category are international grandmaster Tran Tuan Minh (Hanoi) ranked only 7th and Dau Khuong Duy (Vietchess) ranked 8th with the same 5.5 points. This once again shows the attractiveness and unpredictability of this year's tournament.
International Referee - International Chess Grandmaster Bui Vinh added that the results of the advanced tournaments will be sent to the World Chess Federation (FIDE) to calculate the international elo coefficient.
Also on the evening of November 10, the Organizing Committee awarded prizes to outstanding players, concluding the most anticipated chess festival of the year in Hanoi.
The 2024 Hanoi Rapid Chess Open is organized by the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports in coordination with the Vietnam Chess Federation, with the professional management of the Hanoi Sports Training and Competition Center and the Future Grandmasters Club.
The tournament had the participation of more than 2,388 athletes from 20 provinces and cities as well as independent players... The number of athletes also set a new record for the number of athletes participating in a chess tournament in Vietnam, marking a remarkable development.
