For the world market, the London and New York exchanges were both flat. At the end of the most recent trading session, the price of Robusta coffee in London, the November 2024 delivery period and the January 2025 delivery period both increased by 17 USD/ton, listed at 4,702 USD/ton and 4,615 USD/ton respectively. This is a level with low trading volume.
On the New York Stock Exchange, the price of Arabica coffee for December 2024 delivery increased by 0.84% (equivalent to 2.15 cents/lb), reaching 257.30 cents/lb. The contract for March 2025 delivery increased by 0.85%, standing at 256.00 cents/lb. In contrast to the Robusta exchange, the trading volume of Arabica coffee was at an average high level.
On the other hand, the Brazilian Arabica coffee market witnessed the appearance of red in the terms. The December 2024 delivery contract decreased by nearly 1% (equivalent to 2.60 cents/lb), reaching 304.50 cents/lb. The March 2025 contract decreased by 0.63%, standing at 306.30 cents/lb.
According to experts, the increase in the US dollar and the amount of short buying on the two exchanges have caused coffee prices to continuously decrease in recent weeks.
In addition, the EU’s consideration of formally suspending the Anti-Deforestation Regulation has had a positive impact on the supply of coffee in the market. The Anti-Deforestation Regulation is believed to be the main factor behind the price increase for Robusta coffee in recent months.
Therefore, as soon as the EU proposed to postpone this law for a year, Robusta prices plummeted from over 5,200 USD/ton to 4,600 USD/ton in less than a month.
The coffee market is forecast to have new fluctuations this week due to pressure from the new crop supply in Vietnam. Although the price of this commodity in Vietnam has decreased continuously recently, compared to previous crops, this price is still higher.
