Recently, in a group discussion session at the 8th Session of the 15th National Assembly, Minister of Home Affairs Pham Thi Thanh Tra emphasized that Vietnam has controlled inflation very well when implementing salary reform.
According to Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra, the basic salary has been adjusted twice recently with an increase of 50.8% (in 2023 it will increase by 20.8%, from July 1, 2024 it will increase by 30% - PV) - this is a very large number, demonstrating great effort.
The Minister of Home Affairs also informed that in 2025, we can temporarily stop adjusting the basic salary, then adjust it for some subjects. In 2026, we can continue to adjust to improve the lives of salary earners in the public sector to ensure that it is consistent with the requirements of the tasks in the new context.
Information that by 2026, officials, civil servants, public employees, and workers can continue to have their basic salary adjusted to improve their living standards has been welcomed by many workers in the public sector.
Hoang Thi Phuong (Thanh Tri, Hanoi) and her husband are currently civil servants. Ms. Phuong works at a bank in Hoan Kiem district, Hanoi, while her husband is a pharmacist at a company that sells medicines and functional foods.
Ms. Phuong shared that in recent years, the basic salary in the public sector has increased significantly, helping public sector workers improve and feel more secure at work.
"The salary increase is really a joy. My husband and I each got a little extra. Since then, our family's life has become less difficult" - Ms. Phuong shared.
Regarding the information that basic salary may be adjusted in the coming period, Ms. Phuong said that this is something that public sector workers are looking forward to.
"However, we understand that the state budget is limited, so salary adjustments or increases must depend on the country's socio-economic situation to ensure harmony and suitability," said Ms. Phuong.
Similarly, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Minh (Son Tay, Hanoi) - an official at a public service unit in Hanoi - shared that with the recent salary adjustments, the minimum wage in the public and private sectors does not have too much difference. This is a very good thing for employees in the public sector to feel secure at work.
According to Mr. Minh, the 2024 adjustment has brought significant improvements, but many public sector workers are still expecting further salary adjustments in 2026.
"I think that with the socio-economic development as well as the country's resources, increasing the basic salary will help public sector workers feel more secure when pursuing their jobs," said Mr. Minh.
Dr. Bui Sy Loi - former Vice Chairman of the National Assembly's Social Committee - said that in the context of the country's many difficulties, increasing the basic salary is difficult to do, but we have done it in recent years.
Whether there will be a salary increase in the future or not, Dr. Bui Sy Loi said, depends on the country's socio-economic conditions. However, on the part of workers, there is always a desire for a salary increase to ensure their lives.
"With major changes in the tasks of state agencies and increasing requirements for staff capacity, salary adjustments in 2026 are expected to be a timely incentive, helping to maintain commitment and enthusiastic working spirit" - Dr. Bui Sy Loi shared.
