Beef and seafood prices on the 6th day of Tet decrease

Tuyết Lan |

Goods in general are stable, in which beef and seafood prices decreased slightly compared to the 3rd and 4th days of Tet thanks to increased supply.

According to the Domestic Market Management and Development Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), on the 6th day of Tet, the market nationwide basically returned to normal. Most stores in traditional markets, supermarkets, and convenience stores have opened; the supply of goods is abundant, especially vegetables and tubers in the harvest season after the holidays.

Recorded a slight increase in shopping demand to serve the votive offering ceremony, parties before returning to production and business, mainly focusing on vegetables, tubers, and fruits; while fresh food consumption is slower because a part of the population brings food from the countryside to the city. Prices are generally stable, some items such as beef and seafood slightly decreased compared to the 3rd-4th days thanks to increased supply.

At major distribution systems such as Saigon Co. op, Central Retail, WinCommerce, MM Mega Market, Lotte Mart, goods are fully and diversely supplemented, many spring promotions are implemented; basic selling prices have not changed compared to before Tet.

For gasoline and oil, the preparation of goods for Tet was deployed early, closely following demand forecasts. The total value of inventory increased by about 10–15% compared to normal months; at some large distribution enterprises, inventory of some essential goods increased by 20–40%.

The market stabilization program is being promoted. In Hanoi, there are 19 participating units with about 10,700 points of sale; in Ho Chi Minh City, there are more than 89 participating units, the amount of stabilized goods accounts for 23-43% of market share depending on the commodity group, capable of regulating when necessary. Businesses commit to selling lower than market prices by 5-10% and maintaining stable prices before, during and after Tet.

The sales point system has been expanded to industrial parks, remote areas, border areas, and islands; mobile sales activities, spring fairs and supply and demand connections have been promoted, contributing to ensuring people have access to essential goods at reasonable prices.

In 2026, the Ministry of Industry and Trade assigned a total minimum source of gasoline and oil of nearly 31.8 million m3/ton (an average of about 2.65 million m3/ton/month), ensuring to meet production, business and consumption needs.

Key traders producing and trading in gasoline and oil proactively create sources, maintain stable operation of oil refineries, and organize full supply to the distribution system. As of February 22, 2026, no gasoline and oil retail stores have been found to stop selling in violation of regulations; the gasoline and oil market is stable, and there is no interruption of supply. Retail prices are implemented according to the operating period on February 20, 2026; businesses strictly comply with listed prices and sell at the right prices.

In addition, regarding the peak plan to combat smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods before, during and after Tet, the Market Management force (QLTT) nationwide has proactively strengthened market inspection and supervision.

The work of grasping the area, monitoring supply and demand, and prices is carried out regularly; strictly controlling warehouses, gathering points, goods transshipment, and business activities in the e-commerce environment and border areas.

During the inspection, functional forces discovered and handled a typical case in Quang Ninh: on February 20, 2026, the Market Management force inspected and temporarily seized 28,800 balut eggs without invoices, documents, of unknown origin; the value of goods was 115.2 million VND; expected administrative fines of 90 million VND according to regulations.

Strengthening timely inspection and supervision during and after Tet continues to be a key solution to ensure stable market operation, protect consumer rights and maintain trade discipline right from the beginning of 2026.

Strictly implementing the direction of the Central Government and the Government, the entire Industry and Trade sector thoroughly grasps the motto "eat Tet neatly, work early, get to work immediately", ensuring discipline and administrative order; not allowing the Tet holiday to affect the progress of tasks.

The focus is on strictly managing the market and prices; maintaining a smooth distribution system, ensuring the balance of supply and demand for essential goods and services, preventing scarcity, speculation, and unreasonable price increases. At the same time, continue to implement solutions to stimulate domestic consumption, promote the campaign "Vietnamese people prioritize using Vietnamese goods" in the direction of enhancing confidence and pride in Vietnamese goods.

For gasoline and oil, continue to closely review the supply and demand situation, manage flexibly, ensure stable and continuous supply in all situations, contributing to maintaining macroeconomic stability.

After Tet, the Market Management force will strengthen inspection and control in the festival area, on the e-commerce environment and key transport routes; promptly detect and strictly handle violations of prices, smuggled goods, counterfeit goods, goods of unknown origin and food safety, ensuring consumer rights and stabilizing the market from the beginning of 2026.
