Domestic pepper prices: Second consecutive week of decline
As of 11:30 today (May 25), domestic pepper prices are trading between 144,500 - 146,000 VND/kg, down 500 - 2,500 VND/kg compared to last week.
Dak Nong is the locality with the strongest price decrease of the week, down to VND2,500/kg, down to VND144,000/kg. This is also the lowest price recorded on the market.
Next is the pepper price in Gia Lai province at 144,500 VND/kg, down 1,500 VND/kg compared to last week.
Meanwhile, another locality in the Central Highlands region, Dak Lak province, only slightly decreased by VND 500/kg, standing at the highest level of VND 146,000/kg.
In the Southeast region, pepper prices in Ba Ria - Vung Tau and Binh Phuoc localities decreased by 1,000 - 2,000 VND/kg, commonly at 145,000 VND/kg.

World pepper prices: flat trend
In the past week, the export pepper prices of Vietnam and Indonesia were adjusted down compared to the previous week, while other countries remained stable.
According to the International Pepper Company (IPC), Indonesia's black pepper export price last week decreased slightly by 5 USD/ton, standing at 7,427 USD/ton. Indonesia's white pepper price is currently at 10,125 USD/ton, down 9 USD/ton compared to last week.
In Vietnam, the export price of black pepper of 500 g/l and 550 g/l both decreased by 200 USD/ton compared to last week, down to 6,500 - 6,600 USD/ton. Export white pepper prices decreased by 200 USD/ton and are currently priced at 9,500 USD/ton.
Pepper prices in Malaysia remained stable at 9,150 USD/ton, while ASTA 570 Brazilian black pepper reached 6,650 USD/ton.
Assessment and forecast
The main reason for the decline in domestic pepper prices comes from the instability in US tariff policies, which has directly affected market sentiment, making trading activities and signing orders more cautious.
The short-term pepper purchase price depends on the export rate and the hoarding trend of processing enterprises and international traders. The hesitation from buyers makes the market unpredictable.
