Pork prices in Ho Chi Minh City have recorded a significant increase, especially after the Lunar New Year, the price of this commodity has increased, causing purchasing power to decrease sharply.
At traditional markets in Ho Chi Minh City, the price of young ribs is currently around 180,000 - 210,000 VND/kg, three grains 208,000 VND/kg, shoulder leanings 135,000 VND/kg, thigh leanings 140,000 VND/kg, lean leanings 150,000 VND/kg.... Compared to 1 month ago, pork prices have increased by 30,000 - 40,000 VND/kg (depending on the type).

Ms. Le Thi Van - a pork trader at Ba Chieu market (Binh Thanh district) - said: "Currently, the retail price of pork is over 100,000 VND/kg, this is rare because every year after Tet, the price of meat will decrease".
According to information from Hoc Mon Food Unit Market (HCMC), the wholesale price for lean pork at the market has increased, currently fluctuating between 94,000 - 95,000 VND/kg depending on the type. The output of pigs coming to the market is only about 2,900 - 3,000 pigs/day (down 50% compared to before Tet).
"S supply has decreased but there is no shortage because purchasing power is still low. The reason for the high price is that the epidemic has made livestock farms not dare to re-herd, and small-scale livestock farming households have also changed their models, so the supply of pork has decreased, said Ms. Kim Hien - a pork trader at Hoc Mon market.

According to the leader of the Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City, currently, some enterprises have proposed increasing the selling price of items participating in the market stabilization program, including pork. However, the stabilization program had previously committed to keeping prices stable for about a month before Tet and a month after Tet, so prices cannot increase at this time.
Mr. Nguyen Kim Doan - Vice Chairman of Dong Nai Livestock Association said that at the end of 2024, Dong Nai province - known as the pig farming capital of the country, implemented the policy of relocating thousands of livestock facilities out of residential areas and was not in accordance with the plan, so the total livestock herd in the area decreased compared to the same period last year. On the other hand, the impact of the African swine fever epidemic has also caused many livestock facilities, especially small-scale livestock, to be damaged and stop operating.

At supermarkets and units participating in market stabilization in Ho Chi Minh City such as MM Mega Market, Lotte Mart, Bach Hoa Xanh..., pork prices are still stable, many promotional programs have been launched to stimulate pork consumption.
