On June 17, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment held a press conference to inform about the production and export situation of agricultural, forestry and fishery products in the first 5 months of 2026.
At the press conference, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Dang Ngoc Diep said that in the first 5 months of 2026, agricultural, forestry and fishery exports reached 29.82 billion USD, an increase of 6.1%. In particular, agricultural, forestry and fishery exports continued to be a bright spot with a trade surplus of 7.54 billion USD.

According to Mr. Tran Gia Long - Deputy Director of the Planning - Finance Department (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment), in addition to attaching importance to the domestic market and promoting domestic consumption, the entire industry has implemented trade promotion tasks and solutions, taking advantage of FTAs, opening up new markets, restructuring export markets...
Mr. Long also provided more information about the results of agricultural, forestry and fishery production in 5 months of 2026. In which, in the field of cultivation, 2.93 million hectares of Winter-Spring rice have been sown, the harvested output of 15.24 million tons increased by 0.2%; Summer-Autumn rice has been sown 826 thousand hectares.

In livestock, the total pig herd increased by 2.8%; the total number of poultry increased by 3.5%; the total number of buffaloes decreased by 5.5%; the total number of cows decreased by 2.1%. In forestry, the area of newly planted forest concentrated is 108.5 thousand hectares of forest, an increase of 2.5%; the output of exploited timber is 8.7 million m3, an increase of 2.9%.
As for the seafood sector, output reached 3.96 million tons, up 3.5%; of which aquaculture 2.3 million tons, up 5.7%; exploitation 1.6 million tons, up 0.5%.
In the coming time, the Ministry will focus on perfecting institutions, promoting digital transformation, liberating land and resource resources; accelerating disbursement of public investment; effectively implementing the National Target Program; striving to complete the industry growth target from 3.7 - 4.0% and agricultural, forestry and fishery export turnover reaching 73-74 billion USD in 2026," said the Deputy Director of the Planning - Finance Department (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment).
Also at the press conference, Mr. Nguyen Van Long, Director of the Department of Science and Technology (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) said that to promote the export of agricultural, forestry and fishery products, the Ministry is completing the Agricultural Product Traceability System.
Accordingly, the Ministry has organized 10 meetings and conferences with localities and large enterprises to deploy traceability for agricultural products for food such as: rice, meat, eggs, milk, seafood, fruits, tea, coffee and other key agricultural products.

In the coming time, the Ministry will pilot the tracing of durian origin for export; monitor and evaluate the actual operation process to continue to improve the system and implementation process. At the same time, continue to improve the Agricultural Product Traceability System, ensuring connectivity, intercommunication, data authentication and information security; gradually integrate with relevant specialized databases.
