On September 25, the Office of the Government announced that Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has just signed Decision No. 1041/QD-TTg assigning the Permanent Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Mekong River Committee.
According to the decision, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Do Duc Duy is assigned to take on the position of Permanent Vice Chairman of the Mekong River Commission of Vietnam, Member of the Council of the Mekong River Commission of Vietnam.
This Decision replaces Article 1 of Decision No. 892/QD-TTg dated July 25, 2023 of the Prime Minister on the assignment of the Permanent Vice Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Mekong River Committee.
The Vietnam Mekong River Committee is an inter-sectoral coordination organization that assists the Prime Minister in directing and managing inter-sectoral, inter-provincial, and inter-national activities to effectively and sustainably manage and use water resources and related resources in the Mekong River Basin.
Including the Mekong River Basin and the Se San - Srepok River Basin of Vietnam, according to the provisions of the Agreement on Cooperation for Sustainable Development of the Mekong River Basin, the Law on Water Resources, the Law on Environmental Protection and related legal documents.
The Vietnam Mekong River Committee is responsible for researching and proposing to the Prime Minister directions and solutions to solve important, inter-sectoral, and transnational issues in the Mekong River Basin, including the Mekong River Basin and the Sesan - Srepok River Basin of Vietnam.
In addition, it assists the Prime Minister in directing, coordinating and harmonizing ministries, sectors, localities, international, regional and domestic organizations and partners and relevant individuals in monitoring, inspecting and supervising the implementation of inter-sectoral activities in the Mekong River Basin, including the Mekong River Basin and the Se San - Srepok River Basins of Vietnam.
At the same time, assist the Prime Minister in urging relevant ministries, branches, localities and organizations and individuals to: Implement the Mekong River Basin Sustainable Development Cooperation Agreement and related regulations and procedures; implement inter-provincial river basin water resource planning.
Environmental and specialized planning for exploitation and use of water resources in the Mekong River and Se San - Sre Pok River basins; implementation of approved programs, plans and projects in the Mekong River and Se San - Sre Pok River basins.
