Expressing his opinion, Member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Committee for Science, Technology and Environment Nguyen Thanh Hai mentioned VTV's reflection on the traps from "vacation contracts".
This person said that, according to feedback from VTV's documentary series about the pitfalls from "vacation contracts", the target audience of this type of "vacation contract" is the elderly, retirees, and people with economic and financial conditions.
According to Ms. Hai, in the past, fraud was done online and by phone, but according to VTV's reflection, in this case, the fraudulent activities are very blatant, the tricks are very sophisticated such as inviting people to participate in seminars and give gifts, taking advantage of the loneliness of the elderly, and caring consultants "knocking on the door" regularly.
When the victim wanted to get out of the contract, other companies appeared promising to buy it back, but all of these purchases had to pay extra money.
Some cases have had to mortgage red books, salary books or assets accumulated throughout their lives to pay money to these companies even though their children have intervened.
Regarding this "very hot" issue, the Chairman of the Committee for Science, Technology and Environment proposed to add the above content to the people's petition report of the National Assembly.
Ms. Hai also requested functional agencies to clarify whether the "company" has headquarters and operates in which wards and provinces? Is there a source of information and denunciations and how to manage and handle it?.
According to Ms. Hai, functional agencies need to consider handling and have early warnings to avoid other people being deceived by "vacation contracts, resort contracts".
The Chairwoman of the Committee for Science, Technology and Environment added that, immediately after grasping information about the "vacation contract" tricks, she proactively called to inquire about her parents, check if anyone contacted for advice, invited them to sign contracts or made similar promises.
Previously, VTV broadcast documentary episodes: "Swapped Vacation" and "No Escape". The film reflects stories about the vacation ownership model.
According to VTV's reflection, many 70-80 year old customers are approached through calls inviting them to receive free gifts, participate in seminars or product introduction events.
Contracts are advertised as opportunities to own luxury vacations, and can also generate profits from transfer activities.
