High consensus with the policy of arrangement and merger at the commune and provincial levels
The People's Council of Can Tho City (City) met to approve a resolution on the policy of arranging provincial-level administrative units on April 25. Accordingly, Can Tho City under the Central Government was established on the basis of merging administrative units of Soc Trang province, Hau Giang province and Can Tho City. Can Tho administrative unit has a natural area of 6,400.83 km2, population of 4,061,292 people. The number of administrative units is 103, including 31 wards and 72 communes.
Adjacent administrative units are Vinh Long province, Ca Mau province (after the arrangement), An Giang province (after the arrangement), Dong Thap province (after the arrangement). The political - administrative center is located in the current city of Can Tho.

The People's Council of Can Tho City has also passed a Resolution on the policy of arranging commune-level administrative units of Can Tho City in 2025. Agree to approve the policy of arranging and merging 80 commune-level administrative units of Can Tho City to establish 32 commune-level administrative units, including 16 wards and 16 communes.
Regarding information about the collection of people's opinions in the area, Mr. Chau Viet Tha - Director of Can Tho Department of Home Affairs informed at the meeting, before that, the People's Committee of Can Tho City sent a document to the People's Committee of Soc Trang Province, Hau Giang People's Committee to coordinate with the People's Committee of the district and commune level in the area to organize the people's opinion on the policy of arranging the administrative unit at the provincial level in accordance with the law.
Regarding the results of the voter consultation when reorganizing the commune level of Can Tho City, there were 290,130/296,795 voters consulting (reaching 97.75%). The results of the consultation had 286,766 voters in favor (reaching 96.62%).
Regarding the results of the provincial arrangement, Can Tho City has 288,549 voters in agreement (accounting for 97.22%).
Soc Trang province has 330,737/337,186 voters participating (reaching 98.09%), of which 326,405 voters agreed (accounting for 96.80%).
Hau Giang province has 193,851/194,299 voters participating (reaching 99.77%), of which 193,434 voters agreed (accounting for 99.55%)
Job information after the arrangement

Regarding the arrangement and assignment of commune-level civil servants (after merging commune-level administrative units and ending the operation of district-level administrative units), Mr. Tha informed that after the arrangement of the apparatus, the number of positions and personnel present at agencies and units will be temporarily maintained to be stable to review, arrange and assign to perform political and professional tasks.
Based on practical conditions and standards, the capacity of cadres, civil servants and public employees at the district level, cadres and public employees at the commune level at present and the orientation and guidance of competent authorities to implement staff streamlining according to the roadmap and instructions of the Central Government.

"In particular, Can Tho combines solutions to support connecting, consulting, and introducing jobs in the private sector for cadres, civil servants, public employees, and workers who do not continue to work in the city's political system; support job conversion, create conditions for effective use and exploitation of the city's human resources" - Mr. Tha said.
For non-professional workers, cases that meet the standards, conditions and task requirements will be considered and arranged to participate in work in the neighborhood (hamlet, area); resolve the regime and policies for cases that are not assigned to work according to the roadmap prescribed by the Central Government.
Information of the key task in the coming time, Director of the Department of Home Affairs of Can Tho said that on the basis of the results of the People's Council of Soc Trang Province, Hau Giang Province and Can Tho City, the Department of Home Affairs advised the City People's Committee to submit to the Ministry of Home Affairs to appraise the scheme of arranging administrative units at the commune and provincial level before 1.5.2025, to submit to the Government, submit it to the National Assembly and Standing Committee of the National Assembly for consideration.
