At this session, the National Assembly reviewed and approved the Resolution amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam; passed 34 laws and 13 legal resolutions, giving opinions on 6 other draft laws.
At the same time, consider and decide on the arrangement of provincial-level administrative units, shorten the term of the 15th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the 2021 - 2026 term, decide on the election date of 16th National Assembly deputies and People's Council deputies at all levels for the 2026 - 2031 term, establish a National Election Council; consider and decide on the organization and personnel work under their authority, etc.

From July 1, implementing the two-level local government model, Ho Chi Minh City will end the operation of Thu Duc City, 16 districts and 5 current districts. At the same time, 273 wards, communes and towns across the city will be rearranged to 102 units, including 78 wards and 24 communes.
In Cu Chi district alone, 21 existing communes and towns will be merged into 7 communes: An Nhon Tay, Thai My, Nhuan Duc, Tan An Hoi, Cu Chi, Phu Hoa Dong and Binh My.
Hoc Mon district will also merge 11 communes and towns with 4 communes: Hoc Mon, Ba Diem, Xuan Thoi Son and Dong Thanh.
Ho Chi Minh City merged the two provinces of Ba Ria - Vung Tau and Binh Duong, forming a new city, still called Ho Chi Minh City.
The new Ho Chi Minh City has an area of over 6,772 km2, a population of over 14 million people, with 168 commune-level administrative units, including 113 wards, 54 communes and 1 special administrative area.
