The Traffic Police Department explains that stopping red lights on the line will be fined up to 20 million VND

HƯƠNG NHA |

On the afternoon of May 14, a representative of the Traffic Police Department (Ministry of Public Security) gave a specific explanation of the regulation on stopping red lights on the line and being fined.

Speaking to Lao Dong, a representative of the Traffic Police Department said that the Law on Road Traffic Safety and Order 2024 clearly stipulates that road users must comply with traffic lights.

When running a yellow light, the vehicle must stop before the stop line, in case it is traveling on the stop line or has passed the stop line and the yellow light signal is then allowed to continue. Red light signals are prohibited.

Thus, when coming to the intersection, the driver if not to the line but seeing the yellow light or the red light must stop in front of the line. If the driver put the wheelchair on the line, or through the line "does not stop in front of the line", which means not complying with the lamp's command.

On the other hand, the above fine is also stipulated in Decree 168/2024, when the driver does not comply with the traffic light signal.

According to Decree 168/2024 on penalties for road traffic violations, violations of traffic light signals will be fined from 18 to 20 million VND for car drivers and from 4 to 6 million VND for motorcyclists. Both cases have 4 points deducted from the driver's license.

Many drivers believe that if they stop and wait too long, they should only be punished for "not complying with the road markings". However, a representative of the Traffic Police Department explained that errors related to road markings are only used in cases such as cross-line markings, line cross-line/rupture to divide lanes, and directional lines.

In the case of the line to stop in front of the traffic light, it is necessary to understand that the line here is as meaningful as a nail, overcoming is not complying with the light.

This issue received mixed opinions on social media forums. Some opinions say: Traffic participants stopping too much in many cases is force majeure: "People have stopped and are aware, in fact, they should only remind. Stopping too far from the penalty line like running a red light will cause the consequences of stopping too much and then crossing, and each side will be punished the same way".

"This is encouraged by the bar, so on, because going or stopping the same penalty error. Infecting traffic, congestion is also shelves. I think that it should be adjusted, the car has not escaped (the rear wheel is still before the line) should punish the error that does not comply with the line, the car escapes all the line, the error of passing the light" - readers T.T read.

According to an unnamed reader, the nature of the regulation on stopping at red lights is not allowed to go through the intersection when encountering red lights. The road markings are the limit for traffic participants to look at to know the stopping point.

When traffic participants have stopped in front of the road markings, they are well aware of participating in traffic. The crossing could be due to a technical error. Readers suggest another lighter penalty than running a red light.
