On the morning of February 27, the Da Nang City People's Council, term X, 2021-2026, opened the 7th Session (Specialized Session). According to Resolution No. 202/2025/QH15 of the National Assembly, the entire natural area and population size of Da Nang city and Quang Nam province have been arranged to establish a new Da Nang city.
After the merger, Da Nang becomes a unified entity with an area of 11,859.59 km2, with a population of more than 3 million people. This adjusted plan is not simply a mechanical addition but a comprehensive restructuring of the development space according to the model: "Multipolar - Multi-axis - Multi-functional".
The city space will be divided into 3 main functional zones: Coastal industrial - service urban area in the East (main driving force); midland and mountainous area in the West (development of ecological agriculture - forestry, carbon economy) and sea and island space.
The new plan updates the special mechanisms just issued by the Central Government such as: Establishing the Da Nang Free Trade Zone; forming the International Financial Center and orienting itself to become a national and international logistics center. The city also sets a strong goal for green transformation, towards net zero emissions by 2050.
To make these policies effective soon, Chairman of the City People's Council Nguyen Duc Dung requested the City People's Committee to urgently complete the dossier, organize approval and announce the plan according to regulations.
This is a content of particular importance. It is proposed that the City People's Committee soon develop a deployment plan with a specific roadmap and clear responsibilities. It is necessary to ensure synchronization and intercommunication between plans, avoiding the situation where planning is slow to be concretized and does not promote its value in practice" - Mr. Nguyen Duc Dung emphasized.
