Within the framework of the State visit to Korea, on the morning of August 12 local time, in the capital Seoul, General Secretary To Lam, Prime Minister of South Korea Kim Min Seok, along with high-ranking delegates of the two countries and more than 400 leading enterprises with more than 500 delegates from the two countries attended the Vietnam - Korea Economic Forum with the theme "Cooperation in developing the production chain in the new era!"
Speaking at the Forum, Korean Prime Minister Kim Min Seok said that Korea and Vietnam need to expand cooperation from traditional sectors to new, advanced sectors and towards a multi-layered cooperative relationship.
Prime Minister Kim Min Seok affirmed that South Korea is ready to cooperate with Vietnam to diversify supply sources and ensure energy security. The memorandums of understanding signed during this visit will be a solid foundation for expanding cooperation between the two countries in the future.
Prime Minister Kim Min Seok said that Korea wishes to expand comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam and with the experience of creating the "aring of the Han River", it will always be a "solid companion" to work with Vietnam to create the "ring River miracle"; suggested that the two sides increase support, create favorable conditions for businesses of the two countries to operate and hoped that businesses of the two countries would continue to be pioneers in economic cooperation.
Speaking at the Forum, General Secretary To Lam said that Vietnam is continuing to improve institutions, improve the investment and business environment, remove "bottlenecks" to unlock resources, promote economic restructuring associated with growth model innovation, taking science and technology innovation, creativity and cultural values of Vietnamese people as the core driving force for development.
Regarding cooperation and attracting foreign investment, Vietnam has shifted from a "wide-scale attraction" to a "deep-scale attraction" with selection, prioritizing projects with advanced technology, new technology, high technology, clean technology, modern governance, high added value, and global spillover effects, connecting production and supply chains.
The General Secretary hopes that both sides will promote and implement effective measures to complete the target of bilateral trade turnover of 100 billion USD by 2025 and 150 billion USD by 2030; continue to increase Official Development Assistance (ODA) capital, focusing on areas of strategic infrastructure development, including transport infrastructure, energy infrastructure, digital infrastructure and climate change adaptation infrastructure.
The General Secretary said that it is necessary to lay a foundation for the development of science, technology and innovation as an important pillar in cooperation between the two sides, especially for the development of businesses and socio-economic development.
In the coming time, the General Secretary hopes that Korean enterprises and corporations will continue to invest and expand their investment in Vietnam, especially in areas where Korea has strengths and Vietnam has great potential such as clean energy, green, heavy industries such as electronics, automobiles, shipbuilding, chemicals, steel, strategic materials, semiconductor technology, artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, high-quality service sectors in healthcare, education, urban development, especially green, smart urban areas.
At the Forum, Korean and Vietnamese enterprises exchanged, shared and recommended key areas that both sides wish to promote, especially promoting production chains and linking value chains in the above areas.
