General Secretary To Lam receives honorary doctorate from Yonsei University

Professor Yoon Dong Sup, President of Yonsei University (Korea), presented the honorary doctorate to General Secretary To Lam.

VNA reported that on the afternoon of August 11 local time, General Secretary To Lam visited Yonsei University and delivered a policy speech with the theme: " Enhancing connectivity and trust, promoting the Vietnam - Korea Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for peace, prosperity, cooperation and development".

Speaking at Yonsei University, General Secretary To Lam expressed his pleasure at visiting and speaking at the ancient school with 140 years of tradition, one of the leading universities and a typical representative of the strength and intelligence of the Korean people.

In his speech, the General Secretary shared Vietnam's view on the world and the region with direct impacts on security, development and bilateral relations between Vietnam and Korea.

The General Secretary emphasized that, in the face of contemporary opportunities and challenges, Vietnam is striving to bring the country into a new era, an era of wealth, prosperity and development.

Regarding Vietnam's development orientation to 2030, with a vision to 2045, the General Secretary said that in 80 years since its founding, from a poor, backward country devastated by war, surrounded by embargoes, Vietnam has today become an emerging, dynamic economy, leading the ASEAN region in attracting foreign investment and trade scale.

Promoting the spirit of Asian ethnic groups, inheriting the tradition of friendship and humanity, Vietnam persists in its "4 no's" defense policy, strongly supports the settlement of disputes and disagreements by peaceful means on the basis of the United Nations Charter and international law, is always ready to act as a bridge for cooperation and dialogue, is a sincere and loyal friend, a trusted partner, an active and responsible member of the international community.

The General Secretary said that the efforts in the current key period are of strategic and decisive significance to realize Vietnam's great aspirations, which is to become a developing country with modern industry and high average income by 2030, and a developed country with high income by 2045.

On this journey, Vietnam hopes that the Government and people of Korea will always accompany, support and assist Vietnam.

Sharing about the Vietnam - Korea relationship, the General Secretary said that enhancing political trust and mutual understanding is the top important foundation to continue to bring the Vietnam - Korea Comprehensive Strategic Partnership into increasingly depth, substance and effectiveness.

To achieve that goal, the two countries need to maintain regular meetings and contacts at high and all levels. Promoting the central role of economic and trade cooperation, considering this a priority of priority.

The General Secretary stated that in the coming time, the two countries will make science and technology cooperation, innovation, digital transformation and human resource development a new pillar in bilateral relations; create new breakthroughs in cultural cooperation, tourism, education and training, labor and people-to-people exchange...

The General Secretary hopes that Vietnamese students studying in Korea in general and Yonsei University in particular are the "goodwill ambassadors" of the Vietnamese people, who are all eager and eager to become important factors promoting the increasingly brilliant development of Vietnam - Korea relations.
