Accordingly, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union and the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) in collaboration with the Vietnam Journalists Association organized the Launching Ceremony of the National Journalism Award on Gender Equality 2024.
This is the first journalism award on gender equality held in Vietnam, marking an important step forward in efforts to promote gender equality through the role of the press and media.
Vice President of the Vietnam Women's Union Nguyen Thi Minh Huong shared that this is the first time the Vietnam Women's Union has coordinated with agencies to organize the National Press Award on Gender Equality to seek and honor outstanding works from journalists, editors, and media workers in diverse genres such as print, electronic, television, and radio.
It can be said that this is an extremely meaningful moment, demonstrating the determination of the Vietnam Women's Union, UN Women and the Vietnam Journalists Association in implementing gender equality, especially contributing to raising the awareness of the whole society about the important meaning of gender equality for the progress and development of society.
From there, it aims to recognize the positive contributions of the media and press in promoting gender equality, empowering women and eliminating violence against women and children. The Press Awards are also a forum for journalists and press agencies to share and exchange experiences in promoting gender equality.
At the launching ceremony, Ms. Caroline Nyamayamombe - Chief Representative of UN Women Vietnam - shared that this award aims to recognize the important role of the media in informing and changing the awareness of policy makers as well as people on issues related to women's empowerment and gender equality.
"Communication is a powerful catalyst for change" - Ms. Caroline Nyamayamombe - Chief Representative of UN Women Vietnam emphasized.
Ms. Caroline Nyamayamombe also hopes that this award will inspire a "wave" of new, creative, empathetic journalism that shares women's voices, thereby promoting discussions on gender equality.
