On behalf of Minister of Foreign Affairs Bùi Thanh Sơn, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Đỗ Hùng Việt chaired the ASEAN flag-raising ceremony on the occasion of the 57th anniversary of ASEAN's founding (August 8, 1967 - August 8, 2024) and 29 years of Vietnam's official membership in ASEAN, as reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The most significant achievements of ASEAN over the past 57 years are the maintenance and strengthening of a peaceful, stable, and cooperative political environment; a tight and sustainable regional economic link; a harmonious and sharing society where people are always at the center; and the spirit of the ASEAN Community is always emphasized.
With a strategic vision of guidance, solidarity as a foundation, a central role as a foundation, and specific programs and plans as tools, Deputy Minister Đỗ Hùng Việt believes that ASEAN has all the necessary conditions to adapt harmoniously to the changes of the times and continue to develop strongly in the coming decades.
Deputy Minister Đỗ Hùng Việt shared that with the policy of "ASEAN cooperation and linkage is the top priority and a strategic choice", Vietnam has always made efforts and contributed wholeheartedly to a united and strong ASEAN.
Vietnam will continue to work with other ASEAN countries to maintain and promote the achievements, share the burden and responsibilities, cooperate and support Laos in implementing the goals and priorities under the theme "Promoting Connectivity and Self-Reliance" of the 2024 ASEAN Chairmanship, laying a crucial foundation for the sustainable development of the ASEAN Community in the future.
Notably, following the success of the ASEAN Future Forum 2024 with the theme "Building a fast-growing, sustainable, and people-centered ASEAN Community", Vietnam will continue to host this event next year to contribute to the common work of the Association.
Vietnam will also promote its role as a bridge and connector to further link ASEAN and its partners, particularly in its role as the coordinator of ASEAN-New Zealand relations and ASEAN-UK relations for 2024-2027, contributing to the peace and prosperity of the region and the world, and realizing the vision of a "self-reliant, dynamic, creative, and people-centered ASEAN".
The ASEAN flag-raising ceremony is a formal tradition that the 10 ASEAN member countries proudly celebrate every August 8. This activity aims to spread and promote the ASEAN identity, affirm the determination of solidarity and cooperation for the common aspirations of long-term peace and prosperity of the countries in Southeast Asia under the umbrella of the ASEAN Community.
