An important foundation for building the great national unity bloc

On the international visitors side, there were Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka, representative of the United Nations, leaders of a number of countries; Subs of the East, Subs of the East, Prime Ministers of Buddhist organizations, and outstanding Subs of the East from over 80 countries and territories around the world.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, President Luong Cuong said that Vietnam is a country with a long tradition of Buddhism, deeply attached to the history of national construction and defense of the nation. Over the past 2,000 years, Buddhism has become an inseparable part of the Vietnamese cultural and spiritual life. Experiencing many ups and downs of history, Vietnamese Buddhism always upholds the spirit of "national security", the Dharma always accompanies the nation.
Today, the Vietnam Buddhist Church is following that tradition, actively participating in the construction and defense of the Fatherland. Tens of thousands of monks and nuns and Buddhists in all parts of the country not only diligently study and propagate the dharma, but also took the lead in many beneficial activities of the people, such as through charitable jobs, social security, poverty reduction, relief of people with natural disasters, environmental protection ... have made an important contribution to the implementation of millennium targets and sustainable development in Vietnam, to help the religion.
"The Party and State of Vietnam always highly appreciate and create favorable conditions for religions, including Buddhism, to operate within the legal framework, consistently implement policies of respecting and protecting the freedom of belief and religion of all people and consider it an important foundation for building the great national unity bloc" - President Luong Cuong emphasized.
President Luong Cuong welcomed and highly appreciated the theme of the 2025 United Nations Vesak Festival: "Solidarity and tolerance for humanity: Buddhist teachings for World Peace and Sustainable Development". This is a meaningful message in the context of the world facing many challenges such as conflict, inequality, climate change and social ethics crisis.
International leaders highly appreciate the Vesak 2025 event
At the opening ceremony of the 2025 United Nations Vesak, President of the Socialist Democratic Republic of Sri Lanka Anura Kumara Dissanayaka expressed his admiration for the remarkable development of Vietnam in the past, which had experienced the fierce devastation of war.
Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka emphasized that equality is a progressive ideology, equality holds a core position in the teachings of Buddha. He affirmed that Vietnam is a living witness of the spirit of equality and rising up.
This is the fourth time Vietnam has hosted this important international Buddhist event, after successful holding them in Hanoi (2008), Ninh Binh 2014 and Ha Nam (2019). The 2025 United Nations Vesak Festival attracted the participation of representatives from 85 countries and territories, taking place from May 6-8 at the Vietnam Buddhist Academy in Ho Chi Minh City.
Within the framework of Vesak 2025, there are also activities: Commemorating and worshiping the rewards of Buddha Shakyamuni at Thanh Tam Pagoda (Binh Chanh) from 2-8.5; commemorating and worshiping the rewards of the heart of Buddha Shakyamuni in Vietnam Quoc Tu (District 10) from 6-10.5.
