On the afternoon of September 23, Politburo member and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Mr. Robert Maersk Uggla - Chairman of A.P. Moller Holding Group (APM Holding) and Chairman of Maersk - a member of APM Holding.
The Prime Minister was pleased with the positive development of the Vietnam - Denmark Comprehensive Partnership (established in 2013), including trade and investment. In particular, the two sides issued a Joint Statement on the establishment of the Vietnam - Denmark Green Strategic Partnership framework (established in November 2023), which is a new driving force to promote the bilateral relationship to develop more strongly in all areas towards green and sustainable development.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated the potential in terms of capital, technology and advanced management level as well as the investment activities of A.P. Moller and Maersk in Vietnam (since the 1990s), contributing to the development of the maritime industry and the Vietnamese economy.
The Prime Minister also appreciated the vision of Maersk and APM Terminals on building green and smart ports, and said that Vietnam is ready to create favorable conditions for foreign investors to promote logistics projects.
The Prime Minister said that Vietnam is promoting the development of transport infrastructure, including maritime transport infrastructure and shipping fleets, to reduce high logistics costs and increase the competitiveness of goods and the economy.
The Prime Minister welcomed and encouraged the group's investment expansion plan in Vietnam in developing a green, smart seaport system, logistics services, green maritime transport, etc.
On the basis of harmonious benefits and shared risks, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that the group study and participate in a number of specific projects that Vietnam is calling for investment in, such as Lien Chieu port (Da Nang), Can Gio international port (Ho Chi Minh City), and a number of seaports in the North, Central, and Southwest regions.
The Prime Minister also asked the group to invest in other areas such as digital transformation, green transformation, and circular economy; at the same time, share experiences in port management and operation, contribute policy advice, and support Vietnam in accessing international financial resources to develop transport infrastructure such as seaports, airports, high-speed railways, urban railways, etc.
Mr. Robert Maersk Uggla highly appreciated the achievements of the Vietnamese Government in improving the business environment, facilitating foreign investors as well as efforts in digital transformation and green transformation towards sustainable development goals as well as the goals committed at the COP26 Conference of Vietnam.
Mr. Robert Maersk Uggla said the group sees great potential and opportunities in Vietnam and wishes to contribute more to Vietnam's development.
He updated on the activities and achievements of cooperation with partners in Vietnam such as Samsung, Hateco Group, as well as the strategic transformation process of Maersk and APMT in Vietnam with a vision for the next hundred years.
He expressed his desire to explore investment opportunities to build large, modern deep-water container ports as well as strategic logistics projects in Vietnam.
