Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son has just signed Decision No. 1401/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister on personnel changes of the Chairman of the Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO.
The decision clearly states that Mr. Nguyen Minh Vu - Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs - will concurrently hold the position of Chairman of the Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO to replace Mr. Ha Kim Ngoc.
The decision takes effect from November 15, 2024.
The Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO (Committee) was established on June 15, 1977 with the function of advising and assisting the Prime Minister in relations with UNESCO and directing and coordinating the activities of ministries, ministerial-level agencies, government agencies, People's Committees of provinces and centrally run cities related to UNESCO.
The Committee consists of 5 Sub-Committees: Education; Culture; Information; Natural Sciences; Social Sciences. In addition, the Committee also has specialized Sub-Committees and a Secretariat.
Vietnam currently holds an important position in 6 key management mechanisms of UNESCO; owns 70 titles and heritages recognized by UNESCO, spread across 63 provinces and cities, contributing to the preservation of traditional cultural values, creating resources to promote sustainable socio-economic development in localities.
Regarding the direction of cooperation in the coming time, the Committee will continue to strengthen cooperation with UNESCO, promote the development and submission of new heritage dossiers to UNESCO, create resources for national development and enrich the world's cultural treasures;
Focus on performing well the responsibilities at key mechanisms, contributing to the organization's policy and strategy planning; at the same time, taking advantage of UNESCO's ideas and resources to preserve and develop culture, promote education and training, science and technology and innovation;
Continue to effectively implement the Vietnam - UNESCO Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation for the 2021-2025 period and build cooperation in a new phase.
