On July 13, a conference on the implementation of the two-level local government model; progress of implementing key transport projects and sustainable development project for 1 million hectares of specialized rice in the Mekong Delta took place.

Speaking at the conference, Politburo member and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested the Can Tho City Oncology Hospital project.
The Prime Minister also shared about the overload situation at Cho Ray Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City. According to the Prime Minister, this hospital is currently very crowded and crowded, with most of the patients coming from the Mekong Delta provinces. This not only causes costs for people but also causes many problems in the treatment process. Therefore, it is necessary to urgently build Can Tho City Oncology Hospital.

Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Tran Van Lau informed that currently, the City People's Committee has a document petitioning the Government and is waiting for the policy. The National Assembly Chairman, when meeting voters, also paid great attention and directed strongly to promptly remove the legal basis to implement the Oncology Hospital projects.

The Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City said that the Oncology Hospital project is a very practical asset, very necessary to serve the people. And in the Mekong Delta, there is currently no hospital as big as this Oncology Hospital.
"Hearing the information about this project has been around for a long time and the current materials are already broken, even cement, bricks are broken, ... this is a huge waste, so it needs to be implemented soon to prevent waste. In addition to serving the people in a timely manner, we must also fight waste, Mr. Tran Van Lau emphasized.
The investment project to build Can Tho City Oncology Hospital (scale of 500 beds) was decided and approved by the People's Committee of Can Tho City on January 25, 2017 with a total investment of VND 1,700 billion from the ODA loan of the Hungarian Government and the counterpart capital of Can Tho City invested by the Department of Health. The hospital started construction in October 2017 but had to stop construction in 2022 due to the expiration of the construction contract between the unit and the contractor consortium as well as the project loan agreement.
