On the afternoon of December 28, during a working trip to the Mekong Delta (Mekong Delta), Politburo Member, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh inspected the construction progress of the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway investment project section passing through Long Hung commune, Can Tho City.
At the construction site, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited, presented gifts and encouraged engineers and workers constructing the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway project.
The Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway construction investment project (phase 1) was approved by the National Assembly for investment policy in Resolution No. 60/2022/QH15.
The project has a length of 188.2 km, a scale of 4 lanes, with a total investment of up to 44,691 billion VND; the required progress is basically completing the entire route in 2026 and completing and putting the entire project into synchronous operation in 2027.
This is an important horizontal axis expressway, passing through An Giang province and Can Tho city (before the merger including An Giang province, Can Tho city, Hau Giang province and Soc Trang province). The project is divided into 4 component projects, managed by the People's Committees of localities.
In which, the section passing through An Giang province was technically opened to traffic on December 19. This milestone is not only the joy of local people but also a great spiritual motivation for units constructing on the entire route.
According to the Can Tho City Traffic and Agricultural Construction Investment Project Management Board, specifically at the expressway section passing through the city (including component projects 2, 3 and 4), with a total length of more than 132 km and an investment capital of 31,288 billion VND, the construction atmosphere is also taking place extremely urgently.
Previously, the project faced a major challenge regarding the foundation sand source. However, under the drastic direction of the Prime Minister, this difficulty has now been basically resolved, ensuring supply for the construction site. To compensate for the time and meet the required progress, contractors have simultaneously implemented a 3-shift 4-shift construction plan, working day and night.
According to the report, as of now, the project has achieved positive results, with a construction volume of about 49%. In particular, the bridge section has reached over 80% with 100 bridges being constructed simultaneously.
Inspecting the project site in Long Hung commune (Can Tho City), Prime Minister Minh Chinh affirmed the strategic significance of accelerating progress. Accordingly, the sooner the project is completed, the more economical it is, and at the same time, it helps the locality soon exploit economic advantages, creating new development space. The Prime Minister requested that the project be technically opened to traffic on June 30, 2026.
To realize this goal, the Prime Minister requested project management boards, contractors and localities to implement key tasks. Accordingly, rebuild the progress chart scientifically, develop detailed plans for each month and closely monitor the field; review and ensure sufficient supply of sand, gravel, gravel, asphalt; not to let the project break its supply; take advantage of favorable weather, mobilize maximum forces and modern equipment to accelerate.
In addition to the requirements on progress, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested that the project must ensure quality, labor safety, environmental sanitation; especially paying attention to project management quality.
The Prime Minister assigned Can Tho City leaders to direct inspection and examination, have solutions for the situation of too many contractors on a short route, and at the same time resolutely prevent negativity and waste from occurring; continue to pay attention to ensuring the best rights for resettled people.
The Prime Minister also requested that the Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway project must be completed no later than January 31, 2026 to clear the entire North - South expressway from Cao Bang to Ca Mau.
