As of February 2025, Vietnam is New Zealand's 12th largest trading partner, of which Vietnam is the 12th largest example to the New Zealand market and New Zealand's 18th largest importer. New Zealand is Vietnam's 41st largest trading partner.
As of February 2025, New Zealand has 55 investment projects with a total capital of 208 million USD, ranking 39/149 countries and territories with foreign direct investment in Vietnam. Vietnam has 12 investment projects in New Zealand with a total registered capital of 43.9 million USD, ranking 30/80 countries and territories in which Vietnam invests abroad, focusing on the fields of manufacturing and processing industry, accommodation and catering services, retail sales, distribution, import-export, and agriculture.
Vietnam and New Zealand are members of important regional and international organizations and forums: United Nations, WTO, APEC, ASEM and a number of ASEAN cooperation mechanisms; support and closely coordinate in implementing the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP).
This is Prime Minister Christopher Luxon's first visit to Vietnam since he became the head of the coalition government in New Zealand, with a new foreign priority of strengthening relations with ASEAN in general and with Southeast Asian countries in particular, in which Vietnam is one of the top important partners.

ASEAN Future Forum 2025: Forming ideas and initiatives
According to Mr. Trinh Minh Manh - Acting Director of the Strategic Research Institute, Diplomatic Academy, for ASEAN and the region, the goal of the ASEAN Future Forum 2025 is to create an open exchange channel on important issues, especially in ASEAN, contributing to providing ideas, proposals, and initiatives, contributing to shaping the future development path of ASEAN. The forum's ideas and recommendations will complement ASEAN discussions on official channels, contributing to the process of building the ASEAN community. He hopes this forum will be a breeding ground for ideas and initiatives for ASEAN.
According to Mr. Trinh Minh Manh, the ASEAN Future Forum 2025 demonstrates the proactive, positive and responsible role of members with great potential and increasingly large positions in ASEAN. 2025 marks Vietnam's 30th anniversary of joining ASEAN, a historic milestone in Vietnam's regional and international integration.
The ASEAN Future Forum 2025 will be held over 2 days, February 25-26, in Hanoi with the theme: "Building a united, inclusive and self-reliant ASEAN in a volatile world". The forum is one of the largest multilateral events hosted by Vietnam in 2025. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will speak at the opening session and attend a number of activities of the forum.
