According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam, at the meeting, General Secretary and President To Lam respectfully thanked President Joe Biden for his affection and great contributions to Vietnam and the Vietnam-US relationship.

General Secretary and President To Lam highly appreciated President Biden's sharing with the world about the lessons learned from the US and Vietnam in promoting healing and building post-war relations at the opening session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The General Secretary and President agreed that Vietnam and the US share a common vision of building a better future for all humanity from this lesson, which is to promote the role of the spirit of healing, respect and mutual understanding, in which respect for each other's independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and political institutions is the most important.

The General Secretary affirmed that the Vietnam - US relationship has many very special features. Over the past 50 years, from former enemies to partners, Comprehensive Partners and now reaching the highest level of relationship - Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The relationship between the two countries is entering a new historical page and is truly a model in international relations for efforts to heal and build post-war relations.

President Joe Biden affirmed that the US considers Vietnam a partner of top importance in the region.

President Biden affirmed that the United States supports a “strong, independent, self-reliant, and prosperous” Vietnam and continues to promote the partnership between the two countries on the basis of respect for each other’s independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political institutions, so that the US-Vietnam relationship continues to be a model for healing and cooperation to build the future.

General Secretary and President To Lam emphasized that Vietnam is standing at a new historical starting point, a new era - the era of the Vietnamese nation's rise, and Vietnam will continue to firmly implement its foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization, diversification, being a friend, a reliable partner, an active and responsible member of the international community, in which the US is considered a partner of strategic importance, and expressed confidence that the Vietnam - US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership will continue to maintain a stable and long-term development momentum.

The two leaders expressed their delight at the positive results achieved after one year of implementing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

To continue to maintain the stable and effective development momentum of the new relationship framework and towards the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-US diplomatic relations in 2025, the two leaders agreed that the two sides need to continue to closely coordinate to effectively implement the Vietnam-US Joint Statement in 2023, including increasing contacts and exchanges at all levels, especially at the high level, focusing on promoting economic - trade - investment cooperation, high technology, semiconductor cooperation, further promoting the potential for cooperation in the field of training high-quality human resources, considering this to continue to be the focus and a breakthrough in the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
