Within the framework of the official visit to Singapore, on the morning of March 13, General Secretary To Lam and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation visited and worked at Pasir Panjang port - one of the most modern container ports in Southeast Asia, to learn about Singapore's seaport infrastructure development model.
At Pasir Panjang port, Mr. Nelson Quek, CEO of Southeast Asia and leaders of PSA Singapore Group - the operator of Pasir Panjang port, solemnly welcomed General Secretary To Lam and the Vietnamese delegation.
Mr. Nelson Quek introduced an overview of the development process, outstanding achievements and future development strategies of the port. Pasir Panjang Port is one of the world's leading automation ports, with remote control systems, container transportation robots and a smart management system that helps optimize operating processes, improve efficiency and minimize environmental impacts. Currently, Pasir Panjang port has connections with nearly 180 large and small ports in 45 countries around the world.
General Secretary To Lam congratulated and highly appreciated the port's achievements, and said that the shipping system and seaports play a very important role in ensuring Vietnam's trade goals.
On that basis, the General Secretary hopes that PSA will cooperate in developing the seaport system in Vietnam because Singapore's experience in this field is very valuable to Vietnam in the process of modernizing the seaport system and developing the logistics industry. The General Secretary suggested that Vietnamese students will be sent to study port operations and management technology. The PSA representative expressed his willingness to share experiences, strengthen cooperation with Vietnam, and highly appreciated the development potential of Vietnam's seaport and logistics industry in the future.
On the same day, at the National University of Singapore, General Secretary To Lam had a meeting and listened to Singapore's education, science and technology policies with Minister of Education Chan Chun Sing and leaders of Singapore's leading universities.
General Secretary To Lam thanked Singapore's Minister of Education Chan Chun Sing for chairing information and sharing about Singapore's education and training system and some orientations for developing science, technology and innovation that Singapore's leading universities are implementing, and agreed on the policy of promoting cooperation in training leaders for Vietnam to meet the development requirements in the new era.
Appreciating Singapore's educational and scientific and technological achievements, General Secretary To Lam emphasized that the Vietnam - Singapore cooperation relationship has been upgraded to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership not only to expand but also to improve the quality of cooperation, expand cooperation in new areas such as digital transformation, green transformation, green VSIP and artificial intelligence. International cooperation plays an important role in helping Vietnam access the world's scientific and technological advances, including two strategic breakthroughs: training high-quality human resources and science and technology, digital transformation. The General Secretary welcomed cooperation between universities of the two countries; in which programs and majors in the cooperation agreements are all very necessary areas for Vietnam.
The General Secretary suggested that Singaporean universities, among the world's top universities, support and share with Vietnam their experience in implementing cooperation between the state, universities and businesses to realize scientific and technological research to meet practical requirements.
