General Secretary To Lam meets with the President of Singapore

The Singaporean President suggested that the two sides continue to promote typical cooperation models, further taking advantage of cooperation opportunities in new areas.

On the afternoon of March 12, within the framework of his official visit to Singapore, General Secretary To Lam met with Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, President Tharman Shanmugaratnam emphasized that the General Secretary's official visit to Singapore is an activity of special significance, with the upgrading of relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, helping to open a new chapter in bilateral relations at a time of great significance between the two countries, creating a new source of energy and excitement for the people and businesses of the two countries.

Recalling his impression of Vietnam's rapid development, President Tharman Shanmugaratnam expressed his confidence that Vietnam will maintain its position as one of the most dynamic economies in the region, with impressive GDP growth rate, an attractive investment environment and a continuously enhanced international position.

Expressing his pleasure at visiting the beautiful country of Singapore again in a year with many important holidays for both countries, General Secretary To Lam conveyed the warm greetings of President Luong Cuong, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man to Mr. President; congratulated Singapore on maintaining impressive growth momentum and having many correct policies to support people, especially low-income people.

The General Secretary agreed with President Tharman Shanmugaratnam's opinions on strengthening solidarity and cooperation with each other and with ASEAN countries to improve capacity, self-reliance and autonomy in responding to external challenges.

The General Secretary also discussed major directions and specific measures to implement the newly established Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, including making the two countries pioneers in the region in science - technology cooperation, innovation, digital transformation and energy, data connection, semiconductor chip manufacturing, new technology, artificial intelligence.

Approving the proposal of General Secretary To Lam, the President of Singapore suggested that the two sides continue to promote typical cooperation models, further exploiting cooperation opportunities in new areas such as digital transformation, the carbon credit market; enhancing energy cooperation, connecting the power grid, including the ASEAN power grid.

Discussing international and regional issues, the two leaders were pleased to see that the two countries shared many similarities and had active coordination, had complementary strengths, and strived to ensure a stable environment and sustainable development in the region.

On this occasion, General Secretary To Lam respectfully conveyed his regards and invitation from President Luong Cuong to invite President Tharman Shanmugaratnam to soon visit Vietnam. President Tharman Shanmugaratnam sincerely thanked and happily accepted.
