Responding to the initiative of President of the Republic of Namibia Nangolo Mbumba and Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Olaf Scholz, on September 12, General Secretary and President To Lam sent a recorded message to the Global Call for the Future Summit event, held online right before the United Nations Future Summit (September 22-23, 2024).
The event was attended by General Assembly President Philemon Yang, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and nearly 50 heads of state and government of United Nations member states.
Lao Dong respectfully publishes the full text of the message of General Secretary and President To Lam at the event:
"Dear ladies and gentlemen,
We look forward to the future summit with a strong belief and aspiration for a peaceful, prosperous and beautiful world, where people are at the center of policies and actions.
We hope that this historic conference will bring new thinking and new ways of doing things for the future of the world. This will be an opportunity for the United Nations and multilateralism to affirm their irreplaceable values, in the face of the great challenges of our time.
Viet Nam will actively contribute to the conference and joint efforts to strengthen international peace, cooperation and solidarity, and effectively implement the sustainable development goals. We will continue to strive for all people to fully enjoy the fruits of development and prepare for future generations.
In that spirit, I propose that the conference focus on discussing and agreeing on transformative solutions. First of all, there needs to be a transformation in science, technology and innovation, in which the United Nations plays a leading role, establishing a legal framework for information sharing, supporting countries to develop new and pioneering technologies such as digital technology, artificial intelligence and automation... in a safe manner. The latest achievements of science and technology need to reach all countries in a fair, useful and inclusive manner.
Second, the sustainable development of the world is closely linked to green transformation, especially green technology, green energy and green finance. We propose to study the establishment of a global green technology forum for ASEAN and other regional organizations to share experiences and promote green technology.
Third, we need to promote global governance transformation, focusing on reforming the United Nations and multilateral financial institutions to effectively respond to current and future challenges and better mobilize resources to support developing countries.
We believe that through cooperation and concrete actions, we can achieve the goals of the conference, creating a solid foundation for future generations."
