Vietnam is ready to exchange and work with the US to share information, enhance understanding, and remove remaining obstacles.

At the regular press conference of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the afternoon of February 13, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang answered a number of questions about the tax and deportation policies of the administration of US President Donald Trump.

Expressing her views on the US imposing a 25% tax on aluminum and steel imported into the US, Ms. Pham Thu Hang emphasized: "On the basis of the comprehensive strategic partnership for peace, cooperation and sustainable development between Vietnam and the US, Vietnam has been closely coordinating with the US to maintain the positive development momentum of bilateral trade relations."

Ms. Hang pointed out that in recent times, trade and investment between the two countries have had very good developments, meeting the aspirations and interests of the governments and people of the two countries.

"In the coming time, Vietnam is willing to exchange and work in a constructive and cooperative spirit with the US side to share information, enhance understanding, and remove existing obstacles, in order to contribute to the stable and sustainable development of bilateral economic relations and meet the interests of both sides," said Ms. Hang.

Regarding Vietnam's preparations to respond to the possibility of a global trade war, Ms. Pham Thu Hang emphasized that as a highly open economy that is increasingly integrating deeply into the world economy, Vietnam always pays attention to and closely monitors the situation and developments of international trade to take appropriate measures, minimize impacts on the economy, and at the same time contribute to the healthy development of international trade.

"We are committed to strictly complying with international legal mechanisms, bilateral and multilateral trade commitments, enhancing international cooperation, building institutions, improving capacity, continuing to promote trade liberalization and contributing to healthy economic growth," Ms. Pham Thu Hang affirmed.

Answering the international press questions about measures to support foreign enterprises investing in Vietnam in the context of the US implementing new tax policies, the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry spokesman said: "With foreign enterprises investing in Vietnam, we continue to have simplified regulations, create favorable business environment for foreign enterprises to feel secure in doing business in Vietnam."

Also at the press conference, answering questions about the exchange between Vietnam and the US on the issue of deporting immigrants, Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang informed that the reception of Vietnamese citizens deported by the US is carried out on the basis of agreements on receiving back citizens signed between the two countries. In the past, the two countries have coordinated closely, quickly and promptly on this issue.

"Vietnam is ready to continue to cooperate closely with the US on receiving back its citizens in the spirit of signed agreements and hopes that the US will create favorable conditions for Vietnamese citizens to reside, contributing to the development and prosperity of the US, as well as actively contributing to the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and the US, for peace, cooperation and sustainable development," said Ms. Pham Thu Hang.

According to the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vietnam supports and creates conditions for Vietnamese citizens to live, work and study abroad on the basis of compliance with Vietnamese and local laws, in accordance with international law practices.

"We hope that the US will continue to create favorable conditions for Vietnamese people in the US to integrate and contribute to the development and prosperity of the US, and contribute to promoting relations between the two countries in the spirit of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries," Ms. Hang added.
