Vietnam confidently enters a new era of development

From the turning point of innovation

40 years ago, in December 1986, the 6th National Congress of the Party took place in Hanoi Capital with important historical significance, marking a turning point in the process of transition to socialism of our country. The 6th Congress of the Party is called the Congress initiating and leading the cause of national renovation. The Congress found a way out of the prolonged serious socio-economic crisis, and at the same time, laid the basic foundation for the Party to supplement and develop the socialist model and the path to socialism in Vietnam.

Thanks to the implementation of the renovation policy, the economy began to develop and grow continuously at a relatively high rate over the past 40 years with an average growth rate of nearly 7% per year. After 40 years of renovation, the scale of our country's economy increased from 8 billion USD (in 1986) to 514 billion USD (2025) (about 64 times higher), ranking 32nd in the world; GDP per capita reached more than 5,000 USD, bringing Vietnam into the group of high-middle-income countries, highly appreciated by many reputable international organizations. Vietnam's total import and export turnover of goods in 2025 is estimated at 920 billion USD, an increase of 16.9% compared to the previous year - the highest level ever. This figure puts Vietnam in the group of 15 largest trading countries globally.

The renovation line set out by the 6th Congress is the crystallization of the intelligence and scientific thinking of the Party and the entire people, showing the determination and very high sense of responsibility of the Party to the country and the nation. The renovation line has quickly entered life, bringing a new breath of life into society, turning the situation around, bringing the country forward.

Confidently stepping into a new era

After 40 years of renovation (from 1986 to present), the foundation, potential, position and international prestige of the country have been elevated, which is an important foundation for the country to rise in the new era. The 14th National Party Congress is the beginning of a new era of development for the country.

The 14th Party Congress has determined the successful implementation of the goal of becoming a developing country with modern industry and high middle-income by 2030; realizing the vision to become a developed country with high income by 2045, a socialist country of peace, independence, democracy, prosperity, prosperity, civilization, and happiness. Striving to achieve an average gross domestic product (GDP) growth rate for the period 2026 - 2030 from 10%/year or more; GDP per capita by 2030 reaching about 8,500 USD/year.

In his report on documents submitted to the 14th Congress at the opening session, General Secretary To Lam affirmed: The 14th Congress is a Congress of belief and aspiration, of breakthrough and action, of discipline and creativity, of solidarity and development.

The 14th Congress of our Party takes place when the "historical clock" is ticking the decisive time frames before the milestone of 2030 - the moment our Party celebrates 100 years of birth, combat, maturity and development. Never before has the wish for a democratic, rich, prosperous, civilized, and happy Vietnam been so close to us as today; but never before have we faced so many challenges, so many fierce demands, and so much competitive pressure like now" - General Secretary To Lam emphasized.

According to the General Secretary, we are entering a new stage of development with the baggage being the glorious tradition of the nation, the achievement of 96 years under the leadership of the Party, 40 years of renovation with valuable lessons, the strength of the great national unity and the people's hearts. We have enough grounds to believe: When there is high ideological unity; decisiveness in action; strictness in discipline; the people are truly the center, we will definitely turn aspirations into reality; bring the country forward strongly, firmly forward in the era of national rise, forward towards socialism.

Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Trong Lam, Director - Editor-in-Chief of the National Political Publishing House Truth - analyzed, looking back at the 96-year history since the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam and leading the Vietnamese revolution (1930-2026), each Party Congress is a historical milestone marking a turning point in the process of leading to gain independence, freedom, construction and development of the country.

The VI Congress (1986) of the Party is considered the Congress initiating and leading the cause of national renovation, while the XIV Congress (2026) of the Party is considered a new milestone for the country to enter a new era - the era of national rise. The XIV Congress decides the direction of Vietnam in the period 2026-2030, and at the same time, establishes the strategic development vision of the country to the mid-21st century to become a developed, high-income, rich, prosperous, civilized, and happy country" - Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Trong Lam analyzed.

According to Dr. Nguyen Si Dung - former Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly Office, the 14th Congress has closed, but new trust is greater, new aspirations are stronger, and a higher sense of responsibility has been opened up for the entire Party, people and army. The Congress has clearly established a development vision, opened up a path forward in the new period, and at the same time set higher requirements for governance and implementation organization.

Also according to Dr. Nguyen Si Dung, the new stage of development requires new thinking, new ways of doing things and stronger actions. When the Party's will meets the people's hearts, when the strategic vision is transformed into concrete and effective actions, the country will have enough internal strength to break through. The 14th Congress is therefore not only an important political milestone, but truly the beginning of a new stage of the country's development: More confident, more sustainable and full of aspirations to rise up for a more powerful and prosperous Vietnam, with people becoming more prosperous and happy.
