On April 22 and 23, the Executive Committee of the 19th Yen Bai Provincial Party Committee held the 30th (expanded) Conference.
After reviewing and discussing the reports and submissions of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee and the Provincial People's Committee Party Committee, the Yen Bai Provincial Party Committee agreed to arrange 168 commune-level administrative units (including 146 communes, 12 wards and 10 towns) into 51 commune-level administrative units (including 44 communes and 7 wards).
After the arrangement, 117 commune-level administrative units will be reduced (including 102 communes, 05 wards and 10 towns); the reduction rate will reach 69.64%.
There are 6 communes that do not implement the arrangement: Che Tao, Nam Co, Lao Chai (Mu Cang Chai district), Ta Xi Lang (Tram Tau district), Cat Thinh (Van Chan) and Phong Du Thuong (Van Yen).
Accordingly, Mu Cang Chai district is arranged into 7 communes: Mu Cang Chai, Khao Mang, Pung Luong, Nam Co, Che Tao and Lao Chai. In addition, another commune merged with another commune of Van Chan district to form a new commune.
Tram Tau district is arranged into 4 communes: Tram Tau, Hanh Phuc, Phinh Ho and Ta Xi Lang.
Nghia Lo town is arranged into 3 wards: Nghia Lo, Cau Thia, Trung Tam and 1 commune named Lien Son.
Van Chan district is arranged into 7 communes: Van Chan, Gia Hoi, Thuong Bang La, Chan Thinh, Nghia Tam, Tu Le, Cat Thinh
Van Yen district is arranged into 9 communes: Phong Du Ha, Phong Du Thuong, Chau Que, Lam Giang, Dong Cuong, Tan Hop, Mau A, Xuan Ai, Mo Vang.
Luc Yen district is arranged into 6 communes: Lam Thuong, Luc Yen, Tan Linh, Khanh Hoa, Phuc Loi, Muong Lai.
Yen Binh district is arranged into 5 communes: Cam Nhan, Yen Thanh, Thac Ba, Yen Binh, Bao Ai.
Yen Bai city is arranged into 4 wards: Yen Bai, Yen Thinh, Nam Cuong, Hop Minh.
Tran Yen district is arranged into 5 communes: Tran Yen, Luong Thinh, Hung Khanh, Viet Hong, Quy Mong.
Unifying Yen Bai and Lao Cai provinces into a new province with the name: Lao Cai.
The new Lao Cai province has a natural area of nearly 13,257 km2 and a population of nearly 1.78 million people. The new province will have 99 commune-level administrative units (including 89 communes, 10 wards), the administrative center is located in the current Yen Bai province.
