Green Productivity (GP) was developed as a strategy to improve productivity while protecting the environment, aiming at sustainable development. According to the Asian Productivity Organization (APO), green productivity combines solutions, tools, techniques, and technologies for productivity and environmental management to reduce the environmental impact of a company or organization's operations, products, and services, while increasing profits and competitive advantage.
Since 1988, the Vietnam Productivity Center (now the Vietnam Productivity Institute) under the National Committee for Standards, Metrology and Quality (Ministry of Science and Technology) has begun implementing the Green Productivity Pilot Program through projects funded by APO. The most prominent of these is the implementation of green productivity models in communities in 20 provinces and cities across the country (mainly in the fields of agriculture and services) to help people and businesses understand the concept, approach and know how to use analytical tools to evaluate problems, make priority choices...
Ms. Nguyen Thu Hien - Deputy Director of the Institute of Vietnam Productivity Institute - said that the Institute of Productivity is continuing to promote activities to support businesses in developing green productivity according to the general direction of the National Committee for Standards, Metrology and Quality.
“We organize seminars and share experiences of businesses successfully applying green productivity to provide knowledge, documents, and related information for businesses to refer to. In the process of supporting businesses, we realize that we need more support from relevant agencies and departments. Because of the issue of support for green criteria, each industry has different criteria or support related to the development of expert capacity because although green productivity is talked about a lot locally, the capacity of experts, especially green productivity experts in the training and consulting fields, still has certain limitations,” said Ms. Hien.
On the business side, Mr. Nguyen Huu Tu - Deputy General Director of Miza Joint Stock Company - expressed that the business is looking forward to receiving support from domestic management agencies as well as international organizations to be able to apply the green productivity model in production.
First of all, regarding the issue of perfecting the legal framework, Mr. Tu said that it is necessary to issue clear policies and regulations on environmental protection, encouraging businesses to apply clean technology; Develop standards and technical regulations on green production and green products; Increase financial support such as granting preferential loans and interest rate support for businesses investing in green productivity; Introduce preferential tax policies for businesses applying clean technology...
In addition, it is necessary to improve the capacity of enterprises by organizing training courses, seminars on green productivity, technology transfer; Building business support centers, providing information and consulting on green productivity. International organizations create conditions for ODA capital for enterprises with green productivity projects. Create conditions for Vietnamese enterprises to connect with other international enterprises and organizations. Develop markets for green products... At the same time, enterprises themselves must also proactively learn and apply green productivity solutions, and develop specific action plans.
