Ba Son Shipyard - a heritage of more than 230 years
Originating from 1791 under King Nguyen Anh, the workshop was initially named Chu So, laying the foundation for the Vietnamese maritime industry.

In 1863, the French government renovated and expanded this area into Arsenal de Saigon - the leading modern shipbuilding workshop in the East, also known as Ba Son Workshop.
For more than two centuries, Ba Son has played an important role in both economy and defense: as a strategic trading port during the colonial period, a defense industrial center in the South during the resistance war and after 1975 as Ba Son Corporation managed by the Vietnam People's Army.
Ba Son is also the cradle of the workers' struggle movement in Saigon. In the early 20th century, the steadfast revolutionary leader Ton Duc Thang laid the foundation for the first Congress, launching a movement to fight for the rights of workers in Vietnam. Those revolutionary historical values have fostered a cultural and historical identity associated with patriotism and the spirit of national self-reliance.
One of the traces that still remains today is the 156-meter-long ancient boat dock, built in 1888 and recognized as a national historical - cultural relic since 1993, a symbol of the labor, intelligence and aspiration of many generations of Vietnamese people.
Stepping into the era of national growth
Since Doi Moi, Ho Chi Minh City has grown strongly as an economic locomotive, gradually shaping a super city of international stature. That process is also a major turning point marking the milestone of Ba Son completing its industrial mission, opening a new chapter in the journey of global integration. In 2016, the shipyard was relocated to Cai Mep port area (Vung Tau), giving up this valuable riverside land fund for the development orientation of modern urban space of Ho Chi Minh City.

Ba Son is planned to become a complex urban area along the river of more than 25 hectares, including high-class housing, commercial - service, riverside park and historical relic conservation area. More than 6,000 m2 of land is dedicated to preserving ancient shipwrecks and relics associated with President Ton Duc Thang. After the merger of boundaries, Ba Son belongs to Saigon ward - the central core area, oriented to become the financial, commercial and high-end service center of Ho Chi Minh City.

This is also a particularly outstanding land in Ho Chi Minh City, converging heritage factors - location - development potential. Ba Son is not only a intersection between historical depth and future vision, but also plays a strategic role in the TOD model, a multi-modal transport orientation urban area: connecting metro, ferry terminals, inter-regional transport network and riverbank roads connecting the core and the East in the future.
Historical values are preserved harmoniously in the planning space, creating a harmonious symphony between the past - present - future. From an ancient industrial workshop, Ba Son was reborn into a riverside square of international stature, bringing the source of heritage into a new era.

One of the typical items is La Sen Park - a large landscape lake located between the Lake Building and the Sea Building, located in the location that was once the ancient boat dock of Ba Son. The project's expert team has made efforts to restore many original elements such as the natural incline of the ground, the bow and bow drafting corner and the original nameplate "bassin de radoub" - the origin of the name "Ba Son" today.
The composite wooden plank is inspired by the classic wooden structure used to repair ships, while the bottom of the lake simulates the historical ship's body. This space is not only a landscape, but also a "minoral outdoor museum", where Ba Son heritage is vividly recreated and inspiring, the highlights will become a feature that attracts visitors when visiting here.

On the surface of the apartment towers is an LED lighting system impersonating a gai gai gai tree, with tree roots deeply attached and branches rising to the sky, symbolizing the solid origin and sustainable and prosperous development of Ho Chi Minh City.
Bringing the story of Ba Son land into architectural form, each Marriott & JW Marriott branded apartment at Grand Marina, Saigon is the vivid embodiment of a "new era heritage" - echoed by famous global brands, so that each owner can both enjoy a 5-star international living space and own a heritage with lasting value over time.
