LD26136: Intracranial bleeding causes poor man to collapse, two elderly women in a deadlock

HOÀNG LỘC |

Vinh Long - A hired man raising two elderly sisters suddenly suffered intracranial bleeding, causing the whole family to fall into a state of desperation.

In the heavy rain of the last days of May 2026, we came to the house of gratitude located deep in a small alley in My Phu hamlet, Tan Ngai ward. The old corrugated iron roof is stained with traces of time, many places have deteriorated after more than ten years of use.

Inside that simple house is the hard life of three sisters: Mrs. Nguyen Thi Truong (born in 1952), Mrs. Nguyen Thi Anh Tuyet (born in 1963) and Mr. Nguyen Buu Nhan (born in 1967). In recent days, difficulties have piled up when the main breadwinner in the family suddenly fell seriously ill.

Neighbors said that for many years, Mr. Nhan has been the only support for his two older sisters. Without a stable job, he does whatever anyone hires him to do, from weeding, cleaning the garden to climbing trees to pick coconuts, as long as there is money to cover daily life.

Meanwhile, both sisters are old and have abnormal health. One person has symptoms of mental illness, often screaming and wandering around; the other can still do simple tasks but their cognitive ability is slower than normal people.

Mentioning Mr. Nhan's family situation, Ms. Pham Thi Ngoc Tuyet, a resident living near the house, could not hide her heartache: "From the past until now, Mr. Nhan has been the one who shoulders everything. Every penny earned is spent on taking care of the two sisters. Now Mr. Nhan is seriously ill, the whole family does not know how to live.

The incident happened about two months ago. While hired to pick coconuts, Mr. Nhan suddenly collapsed and was taken to Vinh Long General Hospital by people for emergency treatment. Since then, the already difficult life of the three sisters has become even more deadlocked.

According to the medical record, Mr. Nhan was diagnosed with intracranial hemorrhage, suspected of being caused by a stroke, and also suffered from many underlying diseases such as hypertension, dyslipidemia and angina. Doctors recommend continuing intensive treatment at higher levels to limit dangerous complications.

However, for poor families with no stable income, continuing treatment is almost beyond their ability. The meager money accumulated before has gradually run out after being hospitalized and buying medicine.

Ms. Tran Thi Dung - Secretary cum Head of My Phu hamlet - said that Mr. Nhan's family situation is particularly difficult in the locality. Previously, although life was hard, Mr. Nhan still tried to work hard to take care of his two sisters.

Currently, Mr. Nhan is no longer able to work, while both sisters cannot take care of their own lives. The whole household almost only relies on social allowances, so they really need the care and help of philanthropists," Ms. Dung shared.

The rain outside the porch has not stopped. In the degraded house of gratitude, the three sisters silently face the days full of anxiety ahead. They hope for more sharing from the community so that Mr. Nhan has the opportunity to continue treatment, keep hope for himself and for his two elderly sisters who are relying on him day by day.
