After a workplace accident that completely lost the mobility of Mr. Bui Xuan Can's right arm (born 1989, residing in Phu Thanh hamlet, Chau Thanh ward, Can Tho city), his family's life fell into a deadlock.
From a primary laborer, he had to stay at home to take care of his children, while all economic burdens fell on his wife Nguyen Thi Dieu (born in 1993), who alone raised 3 young children of school age (the eldest is 10 years old, the second is 7 years old and the youngest is only 5 years old).
The accident happened while working, in an unfortunate moment, his right hand was caught in the machine, the entire nerve in his hand was seriously damaged. After treatment, he was assessed with a disability rate of 71%.
Currently, Mr. Can's health has stabilized, he can walk normally, but his right arm is no longer able to function. Heavy labor jobs that were previously the main source of income for the family have now become beyond his ability.

Since her husband had the accident, Ms. Dieu has become the only support for the whole family. Every day, she works as a worker with an income of about 6-7 million VND/month to cover living expenses and tuition fees for her children. "Such income is not enough, but the family has to try to pack up and save to cover expenses," Ms. Dieu said.
Each month, the family's expenses amount to about 10 million VND, including rent, food, living expenses and expenses for children to go to school. Although the children are exempt from tuition fees, the family still has to pay necessary expenses such as student insurance and many other arising expenses.

Recalling the time her husband had an accident in 2022, when the children were still young, and the youngest child was nearly 1 year old, Ms. Dieu could not help but be moved. Unable to just rely on immediate support, she both took care of her husband and found ways to earn extra income by selling goods online. "The compensation money at that time was a few hundred million VND, but the treatment time, medicine, and living expenses gradually ran out," Ms. Dieu recounted.
Fortunately, while waiting for injury assessment, the family still received support from the business when Mr. Can was paid monthly. This helped the couple have more time to overcome the most difficult period.
But after many years, difficulties still exist. One person has lost their ability to work, one person has to take on the whole family, while the three children still need to be cared for and educated. Mr. Can and his wife hope that their children will be fully educated and have a better future.
Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Khanh - Head of Phu Thanh hamlet - said that Mr. and Mrs. Can are workers renting rooms in the hamlet. Immediately after grasping Mr. Can's situation, the locality also supported connecting with philanthropists to give gifts to help him.
According to Mr. Khanh, his family really needs the joint support of philanthropists to have more conditions to take care of Mr. Can himself and 3 young children.
