Mao Khe Mine, now Mao Khe Coal Company under the Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group, has a long history, being the first coal mining site of the Vietnam Coal industry. Here, coal was discovered and exploited in 1840 under King Minh Mang, more than 184 years ago. With a rich revolutionary tradition, it was here that comrades Nguyen Duc Canh, Hoang Quoc Viet, and Nguyen Van Cu returned to proletarianization and carried out revolutionary activities in the years 1926-1929. Also on this land took place the event of establishing the first Communist Party cell in the Mining area at the end of February 1930. On November 15, 1954, the decision to restore Mao Khe Mine was announced and became the annual Traditional Day of Mao Khe Coal.
