When jealousy gets out of control
A female bank employee was assaulted, beaten, and had her clothes torn off by two other women (headed by her sister-in-law) right on the street in Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho City. The incident was recorded by many people using their phones and quickly spread on social networks, causing a stir in public opinion.
According to the latest information from Can Tho City Police on January 4, the wife's initial statement admitted that there was no evidence to prove the illicit relationship between her husband and the female bank employee; because she was jealous, angry, and impatient, it led to such a regrettable incident.
The police have intervened and initiated a criminal case with the charges of: Intentionally causing injury, Humiliating others and Disturbing public order.
The incident is a clear example of how losing control of emotions can lead people into trouble with the law. This is not only a lesson for those involved but also a warning to the whole society about civilized behavior and law-abiding behavior.
Speaking to Lao Dong, lawyer Pham Khac Phuong - Can Tho City Bar Association - stated that in this case, the wife used a large group (2 or more people) to resolve her jealousy, and her actions of cursing, beating, stripping, and tearing the victim's clothes were unacceptable. Regardless of whether the victim's injuries were serious or minor, the subject still had to face the law.
The above behavior not only violates the law but also violates ethics, negatively affects local social order and safety, the images spread on social networks have affected the victims themselves, and affected the good customs and traditions of the Vietnamese people.
Jealousy must be legal
Through this incident, lawyer Pham Khac Phuong recommends that everyone, especially young people in today's modern society, even if family life is not happy, the wife or husband has an illicit relationship with another person, they should not act with violence, hooliganism, or aggression to solve the problem.
Each person can seek advice from psychologists or legal experts, thereby understanding the situation and the experts will provide solutions in accordance with the law.
In case of a similar situation, if you have accurate information, you can record to collect evidence, then report to the local authorities, the competent authority of the husband or wife, and the head of the agency of the victim based on the collected evidence.
To avoid blind jealousy that violates the law, people can request the People's Committees of communes, wards and towns to impose administrative penalties on the acts of "Living as husband and wife with another person while having a wife or husband"; "Living as husband and wife with someone you clearly know is married".
Or it is possible to propose to consider criminal handling of the crime of "violating the monogamy regime"; warning, non-custodial reform for up to 1 year or imprisonment from 3 months to 1 year in one of the following cases: "Causing the marital relationship of one or both parties to lead to divorce"; "Having been administratively sanctioned for this act but still violating".
"In particular, each person needs to control their emotions and jealousy to find a reasonable way to solve the problem. If you feel that the marital situation has become serious, that the common life cannot be prolonged, and that the purpose of the marriage cannot be achieved, you can ask the Court to resolve the marriage," lawyer Pham Khac Phuong further advised.
