A luxurious travel photo, a philosophical status line, or a video of tears - all create the perfect online portrait that many people want to wear. But amidst all those sparkling glitter, what is real and what is fake?
There is an ironic truth that many people whose lives on Facebook are completely different from reality. A check-in breakfast at a 5-star hotel could just be a cup of sweet coffee from your best friend.
The "virtual life" photo on the blue beach was actually taken on an empty lot, behind which was a trash can but was carefully colored. The philosophical state of life may have just been copy-paste from somewhere, but the owner himself is not sure to fully understand the meaning.
On Facebook, she is a successful woman, always full of energy. In the morning, I posted a yoga photo by the swimming pool, at noon, I took a photo of work with a luxurious laptop, and at night I thanked my life for "always having loving people by my side".
But in reality, she only gets up in the morning to take photos and then sleep again, working in the deadline situation at noon and at night... lying crying because of arguing with her lover. But which Facebook has room for tears? There are only smiles and splendor.
Many people have believed in splendor. We see others as successful and wonder why our lives are still struggling. We see someone being happy and suddenly doubting their relationship. But Facebook is not real life, it is just the most beautiful edited version of each person.
Of course, there are also posts expressing sincere emotions, but amidst a sea of thoroughly researched information, the rustic truth becomes bland. People like what is sparkling and perfect, but who cares about a boring day at work or a cold meal? And that is why Facebook has become a stage where everyone tries to become the main actor in their own film.
But is it worth it? When we spend too much time creating a beautiful image, we may miss the true joy of life. Instead of taking photos of meals to show off, why not enjoy them all?
Instead of being absorbed by posting inspiring statuses, why not spend time doing things that are truly meaningful? Real life does not need a filter, no need to act - it just needs to be lived sincerely.
